Accessing documents on Plex

Hi all,

I’m a heavy plex user and love the program but I have a question about PDFs, word docs and excel files. Is there a way that Plex can access these from my NAS? I understand it is primarily for videos and music but is there a way to read some of the PDFs I have stored on my home cloud? The native program that I have with the NAS is terrible and I need a way to access my docs. Hopefully Plex has a way to do it. Thanks.

Plex doesn’t support non-media files. It is very unlikely that it will ever get the ability.

To access files on a NAS over a local network, you don’t need any additional software.
Everything necessary is already built into today’s operating systems.
Example for Windows:
A NAS is like a Windows fileserver. You access it like any other file server, by putting
\\192.168.x.x into the address bar of the Windows file explorer and hitting Enter.
(replace the IP with the actual local IP of your NAS)

Now remote access is a different story. I am not able to help you with that, because it usually requires special software to be installed on the NAS and some assistance from a cloud server.

OK. Thanks for your reply. I am looking for remote access for documents. I’ll keep digging around. Have a good day.
