Accessing server

Hello Plex wizards,
I am a poor user trying to set up a PMS on my CentOS 8 to access from within my LAN.

Here is what I’ve initially done:

  • downloaded adequate server .rpm from site (haven’t been able to update to Dec 16 2019 file because it complains about conflicts with previous installed version)
  • logged in with browser after verified the server is active through ‘systemctl status plexmediaserver’ command
  • Verified media loads properly in the Library (took me a while to fix all the permissions)

Now any other computer in my LAN loads app.plex.tv properly, but they complain they can’t connect to the server securely. Now, after a few days fussing around in the internet, I have failed to detect what I’m supposed to do.

I’ve tried port forwarding in my Asus RT-N56U (maybe I did it wrong?), logging off and on from both client and server, rebooting, stopping server service and restarting it.

Please, can an enlightened soul point me in the right direction?

Thank you very much,
Anthorg

Hi, thanks for replying, but believe when I say I’ve read this page repeatedly over the last few days. It hasn’t helped me with my problem.

You say ‘access from within my LAN’ , does that imply that your Centos server is hosted outside of your LAN?

No, it doesn’t. It means that other computers within the same LAN fail to access the server. Meaning that the server appears on the list (it’s the only one on the list), but clicking on it leads to a message saying it can’t connect securely. And yes, the secure connection setting is set to ‘Preferred’ on the server side and it doesn’t help to set it to ‘Required’.

Did you add Plex to the server’s firewall?

Test

sudo systemctl stop firewalld
sudo systemctl disable firewalld

Ok, yeah, wow, that totally worked. So how do I make it work… without disabling the firewall? Starting google search now
