A problem I keep running into is when setting up a new client to access my PMS. For each account I have to log in and pin/unpin all the various libraries etc in the left panel and reorder them to match all the other devices. Surely this config should be saved with the account so that any new device with that account, it appears exactly as previously configured for that account?
Ok, it’s not a regular and repeating occurrence, but over the years it has aggravated me that I keep having to set this all up over and over again. Which means having visual access to a client already set up, so I can copy it as I certainly cannot remember it all.
Or should this be associated with the account? In which case, what am I doing wrong?
In truth, I’d like this to be a PMS global config. So all users of that PMS get that layout, but I guess that’s wishful thinking. Be nice to have that as an option though.
So, am I right that this visual layout is stored per user per device? Or can I improve that?
From what I understand, this is “by design”.
Users will want different libraries to be pinned (unpinned) in different circumstances – e.g. the big screen, a mobile player or the browser version. Personally I can see this kind of use case (e.g. I’m usually unpinning home videos on my mobile apps while I like to have them pinned on my big screen tv).
tom80H, I hear what you’re saying but I also agree with the OP. I personally think we should be able to drag the libraries into position and there be an option (eg: checkbox) to have the server “set this order for all devices”.
As with most things like this, people have differing requirements. So while I appreciate some may want a different layout on each device, it drives me nuts. As usual, the answer is with options that can be set to allow everyone to achieve what they want.
Apple have provided this on the Apple TV so each can be set up differently, or you can keep all devices (in same Home Sharing group) with the exact same layout. Makes adding another Apple TV really simple - except then having to set up Plex all over again. Even adding a new app only has to be done on a single ATV.
So we need an option to be able keep Plex layouts in sync. Ideally, at the account level OR at the server level. So users can have every account on every device with its own unique setup, or for each user to have their own independent setup on all their devices, or for all users of that PMS to have the same setup/layout.
Not impossible to achieve and would cover everyone’s needs and requirements.
