Every day about 2 am all of my servers are communicating out to the internet. Using MRTG and my firewall I have nailed this down to these IP addresses. I don’t allow access in from the outside.
This ishas lasted just one server today 21 Sep 21. It started at 2am and lasted till noon. It starts off about 40k out and grows to 350k before it drops out at noon.

Your server is performing nightly maintenance and updating media information.
This is all outbound+reply traffic. No inbound.
starts about 02:25am EST and end about noon EST
my concern is increased bandwidth from 30-40kb to almost 400k when it finally drops. now I know why my internet is going out in the mornings. how do I limit this on the plex server ? this is every day !
Your internet is going out?
What is your current internet service level? (from the ISP)
problem with being out in the country. our internet maybe 10mb and I stress maybe. most of the time is drops to less than 1mb. but when I have something on the network eating it up I can’t do anything.
That’s fine. I live out in Amish country in Pennsylvania. I know the feeling.
If you go to into Settings - Server - Scheduled Tasks - Show Advanced.
You can see the start time and stop time for maintenance.
You can also see a bunch of options.
Here’s what I run. IMHO, it doesn’t waste bandwidth because metadata and posters RARELY change once downloaded.
I made the changes there. thanks, lets see what happens tomorrow
I upgraded, about a year ago, from 20 Mbps down / 1.5 Mbps up (which totally sucked) to comcast when they came into our area. BEST move I could make.
That’s where I learned how to make net usage absolute minimum
Please do let me know how you make out
Hey Chuck,
Just an update for you. all that update traffic has been minimized.
Thanks
