Like many servers, my server isn’t very strong and transcoding destroys the cpu.
It would be nice to have a alternative in the plex interface to force all users to direct play.
Or maybe make is so all devices gotta use direct play as the first option if not set by the client.
So, if direct play is forced and the client can’t handle it, then what? The user gets a message to try another movie / tv show? And if the next choice fails?
Very true. I once thought(because lack of knowledge) transcoding was a bad thing but much later realized its a blessing. Never having to worry if the client is strong enough to play the file.
Direct play isn’t compatible by all clients so you might x out alot of your friends or family members because of it. Not everything supports 1080p or MKV format, etc…
To what I understand this is the case. Direct play will happen by default if the client is compatible.
