Add Duration Option to Custom Filters

Amy-Grace’s scenario is almost exactly the one I want this feature for - seems so simple (since Plex already displays duration data) that I had no idea this wasn’t possible until I tried to do it.

What is needed for this to develop?

This is rapidly becoming the one feature I want most - had >2hr free to watch something with a friend last night, and we spent 15m of it going in and out of individual movie pages to find out if we had enough time to watch them. Please!

For that particular use case: sort the library by duration .

(not obsoleting the suggestion)

+1 I was just about to post a request when I saw this one and couple of others… dated more than two years ago… Sorting by duration is kind of a workaround but being able to filter by everything you can sort by is more powerful (and kind of expected)…

This is my number one missing feature.

Plexamp’s otherwise awesome functions, like smart collections and playlists, are pretty worthles for me since there is no way to avoid random short (5-30s intermissions) or long (90 min experimental sets) audio tracks.

Your lucky weekend.

Will be in the next release.

This is a very welcome addition Elan!

A minor impact: The Plex app on macOS and also the web interface now show Something went wrong -- An unexpected error occurred. when trying to edit a filter that has had Track Duration added via PlexAmp.

Looking forward to the update that addresses these.

I can’t stress enough how valuable these rule based filters are to my enjoyment of my music Library.

I can confirm this - “Track duration” is not longer a working filter, and all playlists with it as an option crash when I try to edit them.

Tried this on web. Still works in the Plexamp app though!

+1 for adding duration to the Advanced Filters for video content (i.e. movies and tv episodes).

Word for word what I was going to say.

+1 for adding duration for music. Even iTunes has it (and its a horrible app nowadays).

Uhhh, we already added this a few months ago

But have you fixed the bug where you can’t edit the playlists on the macOS/iPad/web app once you add a duration criteria using PlexAmp? I posted about this just above on this thread. Other’s concurred that they too see the bug.

Sorry, that’s up to the other apps.

@elan How can we get this bug in front of the other Plex developers so they’re aware to fix it?

@elan - as CO Founder and CTO, I find it odd to just say “sorry that’s up to the other apps.” Why not help to make the entirety of Plex better?

Who should I contact to get the web app fixed?

Your best venue is via these forums.

Is there a particular technical barrier to this feature being implemented? There are requests for it as early as 2016. Libraries can be sorted by duration, so I know duration metadata is stored properly. Externally this seems like implementing would be fairly trivial and there’s no UI/UX concern beyond conveying to the user the format for inequalities. I hate to sound entitled but it feels like this is a relatively low hanging fruit.
