Just a quick question about managed users vs friend invites for plex pass holders.
I have been playing around with using managed users for family members who I would like to give access to my plex media server. However I think this approach is less attractive than getting family members to create their own accounts.
My question is whether other account holders who I have shared my library with can use smart phone apps for content playback as part of my plex pass sub?
If anyone has suggestions on the best way to get family set up on multiple devices without me needing to sign in using my account on their device then please let me know.
anyone in your plex home can use the paid mobile apps.
you can have managed user accounts or regular accounts in your plex home
you can have 15 accounts total (inluding yours) in your plex home
regular accounts have their own email and password so they can sign into whatever,
managed user accounts need someone in the home with a password to sign in for them, and no one else can share with them but the home admin

A somewhat related question that I can’t find an answer for…
Can a “regular account” user added into my Plex home have access to other servers, or only my server. That is, once the regular account user is added into a “Home” is that user essentially now a manged user, and the only person who can share with them is the Home admin? Thinking here about the option to disable the “news” feature here in particular.

A regular account is still a regular account when in a home. It just gains the option of using the mobile apps and it becomes one of the choices for fast user switching. They are not a managed user account. Anyone can share with them.
A regular account can disable news themselves if they do not want to see it at https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/account/online-media-sources To be clear, News is not something that is “shared”, it is not associated with anyones server. This is why it is not in the restriction section of user share settings.
