I presently have Plex Lifetime Pass.
I have my nas/server and 2 other friends servers that are shared with me.
The issue
On my account I have setup users in my house, wife, son, daughter and thus we can all watch our own shows and track our progress. The issue is that the other users cannot access the shared servers they can ONLY access my server.
How can I get them acces to the servers that are shared with me without having to create a new account and pay a subscription free for my kids and wife that reside in my house with me?
Iāve looked through all the settings and just canāt seem to find anything to allow them to see the shared servers from friends.
Managed accounts cannot be given access to others servers.
Sharing does not require a subscription.
They need their own regular account ( with email password) you can invite those accounts to your Plex Home which since you have a Plex Pass will allow them to use Mobile apps and Download.
If you have a Plex Pass other accounts in your Plex Home will have access to player Plex Pass features such as intro skipping.
If they decide to start running their own server where they are the server admin they will not get server Plex Pass features. Like their server would not be able to use hardware transcoding for example.
If I have a lifetime plex pass. My own server has many nice features and I can use them. My managed users (family) have the same features.
A friend with a own plex account (not home managed) donāt have any of this feature on my server, correct?
If he watches anything on my server, he donāt have intro skipping, trailers, and all this. No live tv from my receiver (canāt share it outside my family).
Would my server use hardware transcoding?
I donāt understand which features are only for me (only unsere feature) and which features are a benefit for a friend watching an my server (server feature).
The feature Plex Home is intended for people you actually live with in. A Plex Home can have up to 15 accounts in it (including the Plex Home admin) either Managed Accounts or regular accounts
If the Home Admin account (You) has a Plex Pass, all the accounts in the Plex Home regardless if they are an managed account or a regular account will get the same features like Skip Intro, and Downloads.
This is specifically so you donāt have to buy the mobile app multiple times and can all use the same Plex Pass features
Again Plex Home is not limited to managed accounts.
they cannot use player feartures like Skip intro and downloads. Unless the have a Plex Pass of their own
Live TV cannot be shared outside Plex Home for legal reasons related to retransmission of broadcasts.
Sorry but there is one question left. Itās so difficult to understand all the different types of accounts.
Home admin (me)
Managed accounts (my family, with my login/pw, no free plex pass)
Regular account?
I thought to understand that you cannot āinviteā regular accounts to home. (So my kids could have their own login/pw and my Plex pass Features)
Managed accounts can only exist in a Plex Home they are created by the Home admin via the ācreate managed accountā button. They are generally used for kids so you can manage/control which device they use. So they cannot give their login to their friends at school or not watch tv on the computer they use for homework for example. Those accounts do not have emails or password. You should not ever give them or anyone your password.
By regular account I mean one with a email and password it. That was created by them where they agreed to license agreements and such. Your account is a regular account. You happen to also be a Plex Home admin
You can invite a regular account to your Plex Home by clicking on the āInvite Plex Userā button in the Plex Home settings.
Correct. Regular user accounts can only be invited into a Plex Home, if the Home administrator has a Plex Pass.
(and if the invited accounts have a Plex Home of their own, it will be destroyed once they join yours)
Adding regular users into your Plex Home will still not give them automatically access to servers, which have been shared with your own account.
The owner(s) of the shared server still has to grant access permissions to these additional full accounts (and they will count towards the server ownerās sharing limit of 100).
