Suggestion: add pause download option to all plex plus players. For instance, if I’m downloading shows A-Z (assume 1 ep each) then decide to binge show A to the point where I get to ep 2 or 3. Plex will assume that I both want to download and transcode simultaneously.
If the player knows that user A is watching show A this duplicate behavior should generally not occur. On fast internet connections and powerful servers this shouldn’t matter too much, but why not give the user the ability to simply ‘pause’ the download sessions OR (potentially) restrict the server from downloading media that is currently being transcoded outbound. (Remember that outbound transcode has a destination, so you scope to that).
On plexamp for instance, the option to refresh the download is manually toggled, on plex player downloads are auto run. < same media.

they are essentially one and the same, the player is both transcoding and downloading simultaneously. These 2 events are not mutually exclusive. It is far more likely that this is only one thread and being merged into the completed assembly at the end of the stream. Verify by streaming in this manner and then pause the video for a while and see if the download ever completes. (i tested this and even though i finished the stream moments ago the download was still at 75-90% so it appears it is forked with other downloads being at a lower priority. the downloading didnt change to the next ep until i refreshed downloads)
I wouldn’t regard the linked suggestion only as a duplicate. OOP is requesting for a hard toggle for the windows app, I’m requesting that true enough, but also for a dynamic toggle based on a specific scenario. The rub is with the ‘delete after N days’, since the downloads will forfeit ep 1 in favor of ep 2 anyway when download refreshes the download should proceed to completion as it doesn’t want to assume the user will not go back in and rewatch a scene. However, that is not the case: see image how ep in 5th position has no downloaded icon because it likely didn’t finish (yet probably still exists in stream cache)
I do find this interesting but I’m not reverse engineering the app. Hopefully this proves useful to one of the devs and might be regarded as a bug report as well.
