Is there any way to add a list of DVDs and Blurays that I have in my collection to Plex? I don’t want to “create back-ups” and add them to the Plex files on the server, but just have them in the library and be prompted to put them in my Blu-ray player if selected. It would help keep a full catalogue of movies I have.
You could in theory make a small video that contains nothing but text in the video stream indicating the message and then create a link with each movie with the proper names. IE Frozen (2015).mkv linked to Check DVD Movie.mp4. This would allow you play the video telling you to insert the DVD (or Bluray) when one of those titles is played, but still would be pretty messy IMO.
However, there isn’t a way for Plex itself to create dummy entries so every solution besides ripping the media would involve tricking the server.
