As Plex doesn’t currently have support for local media played through drives (ie DVD/BD) wouldn’t it be good if you could scan the barcode of your DVD library and have it displayed in Plex library (listed as DVD of course) so you could see your whole collection of media and not just what you have electronically.
I know there apps for doing this on your mobile devices so surely it would be an easy thing to integrate into PMS.
I have a similar problem.
About 600 movie titles (with extras means at least 700 discs) on physical media, about 100 titles stored digitally, about 1000 music tracks as MP3 and probably about the same number of image files.
The Plex system seems the best way to manage my digital media, allowing for future digital purchases to be added in a way that keeps them safe and accessible. However, as far as I can see I would still need another application to keep track of the physical media.
Plex adding the streaming of news and some DVR functionality makes it appear to be a “go to place” if I want to watch or listen to something… Unless it happens to be one of the aforementioned 600 films!
I have found several other forum posts (some dating back as far as 2009) on this subject, but no official responses.
I’ll keep trawling through the Plex Labs projects to see if anyone has come up with an elegant solution to what appears to be a common barrier to using Plex if you’ve already spent years building up a movie collection.
