I would like to have the ability to set any Movie or Series (per series, or per season) to be excluded from any library updates. The items excluded should not be removed from the library, but simply be ignored when doing library updates / scanning for new items.
I did look at using the plexignore file to achieve something similar, but all the items listed in the plexignore were remove from my library completely.
All of my media files are uploaded to OneDrive and then mounted using rclone (as I’m sure a lot of other users have), but this does take a long time to scan the library for any updates though. I feel like a large part of the library can be excluded from scans, and will improve the scanning considerably.
Looking at movies, once it’s been added to the library and all metadata has been generated and scanned, it can then be excluded from any future scans (assuming you don’t want to make any future changes or upgrade the quality etc)
The same is true for series. When a series has ended (Game of Thrones), it doesn’t have to be scanned again. There are some ongoing series that have quite a lot of seasons (NCIS) that you can set previous seasons to be ignored and only scan the latest season.
A similar approach to the plexignore file could possibly be used.
There’s already an existing feature suggestion discussing an option to exclude items / folders / libraries from future library scans. I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
There’s also another suggestion discussing an option to improve the integration of cloud storage (e.g. with regards to avoid bans by exceeding bandwidth limits).
