Goodafternoon,

When I send an invite to someone and they click on to the link, they get an error that something is wrong with the invite. Could someone help me please??

Kind regards,

Alphard

Have them create a free account at plex.tv if they have not yet done so.

They can login at app.plex.tv and accept the invitation under Users & Sharing.

Goodmorning FordGuy61,

I’ve tried that. I made a free account and accepted the link I received. But now, when I would like to play some music via that free account and connected to my own server with plex-for-a-lifetime, I still have to buy a plex-pass for that free account. Howcome? Did I do soemthing wrong?

With kind regards

They might get an option to go premium but they don’t need a Plex Pass to use Plex.

A Plex Pass is not required.

Were you using a mobile (phone/tablet) app with the free account?

Plex mobile apps are free, but have a one-minute timeout.

You can remove the limit three ways:

  1. Be invited to the Plex Home of a Plex Pass user. Note this has security implications for the Plex Pass holder (fast account switching, PIN protections, etc).
  2. Purchase a one-time activate fee, $4.99 USD, via the Google/Apple/Amazon store from where the app was acquired.
  3. Purchase a Plex Pass.

Non-mobile Plex clients - Smart TV app, desktop app, etc - have no time limits. Someone using one of those clients can play anything you share with them at no cost and with no time limits.

I was.
I have an admin-account to control the server. thats on my kodi-mail. Than I would like to make an user-account with my personal mail-account, without needing a flexpass or something cause I want to invite from my admin-account. You understand where I’m going to? Its hard for me in English.

Would you like to try this in a different language? You’d be surprised how international this community is

If this is about having a 2nd account for yourself… have you considered making this a “managed account”? Otherwise you will always be able to invite yourself into your “Plex Home”. You should certainly not pose a security risk for yourself
This is useful among users living in the same household / members of your family. FordGuy61’s word of caution referred to the fact that many users invite all kind of people to their home to avoid those users from requiring to activate the Plex app on their phones (see FordGuy’s post above) – ignoring the consequences of being a Plex home

And thats excactly what I dont want: a managed account. I just want a plain and simple account so, for example my father of 74, can’t screw things up

He has done that before…

He needs a free account at plex.tv. No Plex Pass required.

Invite him as a Friend, not a Home User.

His account will have no timeouts for non-mobile Plex clients - Plex Web, Smart TV apps, Streaming device apps (AppleTV, AndroidTV, Roku), etc.

Mobile apps, phones & tablets, will have a 1 minute limit on streaming content. The limit can be removed for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 USD (or your local currency equivalent).

His account will see only what you share with him. It will not have any administrative capability for your server. It cannot add or delete media from your server. If you grant permission, he can download media to his mobile and desktop/laptop devices. Uploading pictures/movies from his mobile camera is currently supported, but will be discontinued in June 2021.

So, you are forced to have an account of the price of $4,99 for that one-minute issue

Yes, essentially.

Technically, the account at plex.tv is free.

The $4.99 applies only to the mobile app.

If he does not use the mobile app, then there is no cost.

You can add regular account to your Plex Home
