Add "Versions" as Extra Type

I would like to see an extra type to allow for the collection of alternate versions. Obviously, I can currently use something like “Featurette” for this but a separate type would be welcomed.

I think this request is more suited to what you want

Agreed but I was proposing this as an alternative because Plex seems to actively discourage that particular functionality and this would provide improved functionality with seemingly less effort. The other request has been outstanding for a long time.

I know I’m jumping in late on this but I’d also like to see this. It seems a very simple thing to me to just add Alternate Version as a movie extras file type. So if in one movie folder you had…

Blade Runner (1982)
Blade Runner (Final Cut) (1982).mkv
Blade Runner (Theatrical Cut)-AlternateVersion.mkv

… Plex would default to the Final Cut as the movie but under extras you’d see the Theatrical Cut not as some “Featurette” (the best workaround now) but for what it actually is.

To me this is a better solution than saving the alternate version in it’s own folder as a separate movie because at least in my own experience, with most movies that have an alternate cut that you feel is worth keeping on Plex you’re still going to have your own preference for which version you like best to be the default. In those cases saving the alternate version as an extra is cleaner and I think more in keeping with how most people would want to organize their movie library. It would just be nice to be able to label the alternate version for what it is instead of calling it a featurette.
