Added a new user and lost my admin rights

Cool. More…looks like local (inaccessible) libraries are no longer seen listed locally. Can see them listed, but still inaccessible, on mobile. See pics.

Ugh getting worse.

I never use a Plex Home for this very reason.

Plex accounts are free and if the person can’t get off his/her posterior and get a free account then I’m not going to share.

If it is children in my home, I’ll setup the account and lock that username in to their tablet.

This is going to be a bear to undo.

STEP 1

  1. Stop the container

  2. Now you need to go drill into the file system where the container’s /config is stored.

  3. Get to Preferences.xml

  4. cp Preferences.xml Pref.xml-save

  5. EDIT Preferences.xml (as root), remove the following PrefName="Value" pairs (some may not exist)
    a. PlexOnlineUsername
    b. PlexOnlineEmail
    c. PlexOnlineToken
    d. PlexOnlineHome
    e. secureConnections

  6. Save it

  7. https://app.plex.tv
    a. Kick everyone out
    b. You leave the home (which should destroy/remove it)

  8. Sign out of Plex.tv

  9. close the browser tab

====

STEP 2

Now to reclaim the server

  1. Sign into Plex.tv/claim
  2. Copy the claim token (5 minute time limit – don’t forget)
  3. Remove the container (sudo docker rm) but not the data.
  4. edit the container config, add the PLEX_CLAIM token in
  5. Start the container
  6. Give it a moment for dockerPlex to negotiate new credentials for Preferences.xml
  7. Sign into the newly reclaimed Plex.

Thanks Chuck.
I knew it shouldn’t be done.
But fixing it on an OS I’m not familiar with was way beyond my scope

which OS? Windows ?

Supplemental:

When control of the server has been regained –

  1. Restart the apps and check for correct behavior.
  2. Remove + Reinstall + Relink if necessary – don’t try to force it - just get it done.

Yeah I’m ashamed to say I only understand Windows.
I have used docker/Linux but just because the Cloudbox setup is idiot proof.

Unraid stuff, I just never got my head around.

chrisallen is the Unraid Guru but it’s mid weekend for him but –

Docker is docker :crossed_fingers:

Ah right sorry.
Sorry for tagging you in.

It’s good. He is QA lead but has Unraid as his main server.
Now to wait and see if I am successful at dismembering Unraid docker :smiling_imp:

I will do my best to disassociate you.
But honestly, damn. In more general terms Plex has never rocked as much as it does right now.
@r0ndL Apologies for the love in.

If the above fix doesn’t work for your setup I guess you will have to wait for wingman

@ChuckPa thanks so much for your help. I was ok until these steps. I can’t seem to find the container config to add the. token. I thought it was in the root of the Plex directory under the appdata but it’s not. Any ideas?

Unraid forums (your best friend right now)

where does unraid keep container config files –

start with /mnt/cache

look around in /mnt/cache/appdata

should find Plex there somewhere

ANOTHER THOUGHT:

On Synology, We can edit the container definition

Can you do the same in a GUI on Unraid ?

Synology has this.

I’m totally lost now. Since I had no luck I opted to just start from scratch and even used a docker by linuxserver instead of binhex. I blew everything away other than my media. Installed the new docker and I’m still in the same boat. Can’t admin server or access local media. What in the world did I do? :frowning:

I’ve been getting educated on how unRaid works.

Please, threatening Emby is not going to garnish any sympathy and, if I may be candid, make folks less likely to help late on a Friday night.

  1. Editing the Preferences.xml file is as I wrote.

  2. Editing the container environment settings to reclaim it is done in that big gui you have of all your “Apps”. It’s literally a One Line change.

  3. Since you have blown it all away, would you like me to remove the server instance at Plex.tv so you can properly start over ? (what you do locally won’t matter if Plex.tv still sees the same info)

Given the education I just got in 20 minutes over a video call, I can probably get you up and running.

Thanks so much for everyone’s help. Especially @ChuckPa . BTW I edited and deleted the Emby comment, that was typed out of frustration out of things I DID wrong. I am very sorry for that remark.

I finally fixed the issue with the new installation. I figured out that managing remotely (my Unraid/Plex Server is headless) through a separate VLAN was causing issues. Not sure why I did not have issues administering it on a separate VLAN prior to today.

Currently going through fixing my libraries.

Must emphasize this again, thank you all very much for the support, and I sincerely apologize for the Embly remark.

Back to optimizing my libraries. At least now I have a “fresh” install.
