Adding a second TVButler

Hi,
I have a Synology NAS 918i running Plex Server. It has been straight forward so far to set up which has been great.
I set it up with a TVButler Dongle for live TV and it is working very well -so much so that I decided to get a second TVButler.
There is only one USB port on the back of the 918i and so I plugged both the new and the existing TVBulter into a USB hub and plugged it in. I went to Settings>Server>Live TV & DVR and clicked on + Add Device. The second Dongle isn’t found and I am not sure what to try next. I have tried plugging one TVButler into the USB socket on the front of the 918i and the other TVButler into the USB socket on the back but that doesn’t work either.
Any ideas about how I should proceed? I don’t want to scratch the DVR and start over unless that is the only way forward.
Needless to say I’d be very grateful for a solution -two channel recording is more than twice as attractive than single channel!.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Ok, So I ended up ‘Deleting DVR’ to see if the 2nd TVButler dongle would appear. No luck there.

Can anyone help?

This really doesn’t sound like a Plex issue (Not saying it’s NOT).
Is there any Synology NAS software that allows you to view tuners/hardware status and verify the NAS itself recognizes two tuners or butler devices?

Hi,
Thanks for the ideas. I checked my NAS and it shows the two attached USB dongles properly. I unplugged each in turn and they they dutifully disappeared and reappeared when plugged back in. So it seems that the NAS isn’t hiding the second device from anyone…
On the NAS the TV Butlers are identified as “TS Aggregator - Dexatek Technology Ltd” with PID = 1d19 and VID = 0100 REV 1.00 (identical for both).
I’ve tried restarting Plex (no joy) and generally mucking about. A recent development is that I have not been able to record anything for several days now (just noticed) and that when I try to watch anything live it doesn’t work. Either by just taking me back to the schedule page when I click on a program without showing anything or with a message that says “Could not tune channel. Code -1” which is definitely a new problem. I seem to have gone from one tv tuner to zero whilst trying to install a 2nd TV Butler.

I’m going backwards. All I can do with Plex now is watch stuff that I recorded a while ago and that’s it. No new recordings, no live tv, no second dongle.

HELP!!

Hi,

Is there anyone out there who can help with this problem?

Hi,
I’ve just done the latest version update. Still cannot see that second tv butler.
Is there anyone from Plex support that looks at these stale old unresolved posts?
Thanks if you can help…

Is anyone running two TV butlers on a Synology NAS? Does it work ok? Any glitches or insights on how to get mine second TV Butler to come to life?
Thanks for ANY input, I’m dry

Have a windows machine you could test a PMS install and the two TV butlers on?
This would at least determine whether it’s OS related or not.
I imagine it’s quite possible a usb device being seen as a single entity by software trying to read it if the drivers are a base level ‘generic’, as linux oriented drivers sometimes seem to be.
