Adding searchable meta data to home videos

I have searched the forums for a good answer to my questions but so far I haven’t found it so I’ll ask it.

I read in the plex manual that only file names are searchable when it comes to movies in your collection. When you are dealing with regular movies it’s a minor inconvenience since I can go into a movie and from there click an actor to see my collection of his/her movies.

But I have alot of home movies and would love to be able to enter searchable meta data like actors and titles so I can search for mom and see all the clips that she is in. I haven’t found a good answer to this. Is searchable meta data something that they are working on? Why isn’t it implemented already since the meta data is already there as we speak? And why can’t we add actors as meta data since that is at least a clickable search term?

Would love if someone knew a good answer or could point me to the thread where it has been discussed already.

Cheers

I guess that is a no. Haven’t Plex at any point said that they will start adding indexed searches to the database? Weird to have a database without a proper search capability. The data is already there after all. And if it’s client sided there is no impact on their operations at all.

Hi Kevlin. I am a brand new user of plea and no “ninja” has been able to answer the same question raised by me as yet. The way I am getting around that at the moment is to use the "Director’ field under “tags”. This is the only field that appears to allow both search and filter to be done via the various apps. Make sure that you change your settings for the Local Media Assets agent, so that this is dragged to the top of the library agents window for home videos. Good luck! One day I hope we get to record “Actors” in the same way!

I can’t search for words put in the Directors field sadly. I really only need one Tag field to put all the searchable terms so I had my hopes up

Any more news on the searchable functions as of yet?
