Adding wakeonlan to plex server

Hi plex customer support and forum user,

In the situation we are in in Europe with power bills, and maybe elsewhere in the world, my question is as follows;

Would it be possible to add ‘wake on lan’ functionality on the plex media server for windows and linux? So how would you implement it?

I would suggest, that you can put a computer to sleep for example after 12 hours (using windows power settings) so that when everyone sleeps in your household the computer shuts itself down, but when someone uses the server to access plex (a plex user trying to access the server), the plex client trigers a wake on lan request to the plex server. This is especially usefull when your NAS is on a seperate computer. Of course you need to further setup in windows or linux, and maybe port forward, but I would see how this would benefit power usage.

How does anyone think about such a feature?

It would also be usefull as a function if its is only for the owner of the server. In that case a power on button in plex web or plex dash would be helpfull.

Awaiting your response,

Joannes Wyckmans
