Wake On Lan

Hi All,

It’s not clear for me if Plex Server support Wake on Lan or not.
I’ve a nas for storage but server is on fast machine for decoding.
It’s clear i’d like to power off server when not used and power on when the first client connect it.

Wol Magic packet seems to be the solution. I’ve corrected configured my Bios/motherboard and it works with software that send WOL packet. I don’t understand why this features is not implemented on Plex server since it seems so reliable.

I found some “custom” solution but hardware depending and very difficult to implement for me.

Since NAS is often not so power for transcoding, the position of plex for not to implement this features is that we have to leave the server powered on 24/24 ?. It seems a waste of energy and money.

Hope to have answer from plex.

Thanks

Alessandro

What is so hard in just sending the WOL packet manually via software and then connecting to PMS? Thats how I do it and it works perfectly fine.

It’s not hard for me but for example it’s hard to my parents using Plex client on tv. I’d like they use it as a simple service but without wol it could be a problem. What I think is very simple to add for Plex develop and I hope they’ll think about adding it
