Now that plugins are gone or will be completely from Plex at some point in the near future, with the so-called “Plex Labs” made by Plex, should members be encouraged to develop agents that help improve Plex’s biggest problems such as metadata and other features that would help Plex improve in areas they simply do not have the time for or are largely overwhelmed to get to. I am sure there are members who know code and can work with Plex Development members to fix critical parts that make Plex work.
Among those would be an improved movie agent and redesigned music agent.
Any thoughts from members on this? Should Plex do offer this as a way to expand on their “Plex Labs” project?
What problems do you have with Movie metadata? Most of the problems I’ve had have been with the metadata source rather than the Plex agent. The movies simply haven’t been in the source or aren’t complete.
For instance, I just bought Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed DVD:
It doesn’t appear in the Movie Database so I’m going to have to input it’s metadata manually.
I don’t use Plex for music so I have no experience with that portion.
I’d like to see Plex simplify the agent settings screen though! Kind of a nightmare UI even after you’ve worked with it for awhile. And a common fix seems to be to move the Local Media Assets agent to the bottom. If that’s the fix, why not have it come default that way?
From time to time, Plex’s metadata whether it is for movies or music, is simply unreliable. What I am trying to propose is a way for members to create the own agents so they can use for their own purposes if that is even possible.
I believe on EMBY and I might be mistaken, but if you needed information on the Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed DVD, you could have taken metadata from that website and EMBY would populate that with metadata from Amazon or alternatively, if a plugin was created to allow you to take metadata from certain sites to use them for your collection, that would be great too.
I am proposing new ways Plex can be more customize for its customers especially with agents to make the hard work of putting together a library easier and easier on the company. The plugins for Plex are just nuts from time to time and do not respect a customer’s content the way it is suppose to.
