Alexa says "Playing music by ___" when asked to, but no music plays

When asked, for example, “Alexa play music by Miles Davis” Alexa will respond “Ok, playing music by Miles Davis”. But then it never actually starts playing, and the album artwork/artist info disappears. My echo show device is able to show me album artwork for artists, tell me all the recently added albums, etc. So clearly my echo devices are connected to my plex server if they’re pulling metadata and displaying it. Remote access is enabled and working perfectly, myself and other users are able to access content remotely on a variety of devices without issue. I’ve seen a few similar threads, but nobody has found a solution. This is really unfortunate, because my echo devices were the best (and only) way to use Plex to play music throughout the house on multiple speaker systems.

My plex server is currently on version 1.23.3.4707

Have you tried it “tomorrow”? I haven’t tried playing Plex yet but plan on trying. I had issues with Alexa seeing configuration changes immediately. Getting “everywhere” to work when I added an Alexa was harder than expected. Reboots to Alexa and …. Eventually it started working hence my “tomorrow” comment.

Questions

  1. can you play your music outside your home on the internet from say your phone? This validates external access.
  2. what does your router say network traffic is when you start playing? I think Alexa needs to upload/download your entire song before playing. Are you seeing that traffic?

Note: Alexa drives me nuts when it doesn’t like something. There is probably a log that I need to find.

Note: Music integration with Alexa is painful. Look at the negative reviews on same. Of interest are the negative reviews when trying to use the Amazon music service:-)

Remote access is working fine. Usually when an echo device cant find your plex server, it has an error message that says so. Also, my echo show shows metadata and album artwork, will answer questions about recently added music, which means that it’s connected to my server.

I don’t use the “everywhere” command for multi room Plex music, I have a speaker group set up that automatically plays everywhere when using my echo show.

I have the same issue, after months of no luck I installed My Media app for Alexa on my qnap NAS works a treat both local and remote. Frustrating because I’m a big Plex fan but no help on this one.
