I installed the new update a couple of days ago and now all the buttons to select areas are gone. no home button no settings button, when I play a video the play pause and close buttons are gone. Is there a way to fix this or can I go back one update with out having to use a system restore point?

The fix for me was to update java on your PC.
newest version of Java is running and all buttons are still not there. well they are there just not visible. If I hover over where they are supposed to be I see what they are called and can click them but it is a guessing game. wait for the curser to change shape. just want them to be visible again.
Can you see the icons using a different browser? If so, it is not java nor your PC but rather the original browser. You might find success with restarting the Plex server, restarting the PC, and/or resetting your original browser to default settings. If it is a 3rd party browser you might see if there is an update for it.
It is not working in Chrome, I.E., or Firefox. I will continue to troubleshoot but hoping someone has had better luck than me, if they have had this issue. Thank you for your input.
Java is not used in Plex whatsoever.

Try both.
Disable any web browser extensions which can manipulate the content of web pages, like ad blockers, privacy enhancers, script blockers etc pp
Perhaps add a screenshot, including the web browser address bar.
