I followed the https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide-Windows and got plex to work through the trailers app for only two minutes. Then nothing worked, everything went to a standstill. I even went in to delete the cert profile on the atv and get a new one but it wouldn’t access it. I rebooted the atv and all that popped was the “computers” app an settings. Where do I start? I can’t tell if my pc is blocking the atv or if this is an apple issue. I have a brand new atv 3rd gen with 6.0 software. Where do I start?

Hey man I know its a bit daunting and frustrating but you got it to work which is the good news.
When you ATV rebooted it logged out of your iTunes account which is why your ATV only has those few icons.
Go into Settings and sign in again and see if your ATV returns to "normal". Make sure you change your DNS settings back to automatic for the reboot though. Just to eliminate any strangeness. This is a relatively simple and harmless change which can easily be changed back for PlexConnect when needed.
Once you get all those standard icons/apps back on your ATV Homescreen then change the DNS setting back to reflect the IP address of your PMS/PlexConnect and see if that works.
You should check/read/follow that link that Trudge posted but I know that when you're eager to get going its all a bit offputting so I wanted to jump in and give you some moral support. When you want to go fast its often best to go slow. Let me know how it works out for you.
This stuff was so easy when I was younger, had no kids and lots of time.
I had to give up last night and awoke this morning got it all running again, for two minutes, then my only problem was the plex part on the atv was showing no media, all regular apps were there and I could surf YouTube. I tried to enable IIS to get into it, which required a restart, then after the restart of my pc, no Internet on the atv. I deleted the profile and couldn’t get it to recerteven though plex was running and the connect server was running. I looked and the IIS never enabled, no check in the box, so that’s a problem. I tried to go into the advanced setting in the firewall to setup the rule, it says “error opening windows security with advanced security snap in”
Blah. I just restarted the computer, opened plex media server from the task tray and then started plex connect, put the cert on the atv and it’s working again with my daughter watching lion king on it now.
As far as the read before posting, that’s what I understood I needed to look at, if I went in the wrong direction, someone will have to tell me.
One main question for right now that I can’t answer after all the reading; will I ever have to tether to the computer to make this work? I couldn’t make out if that was only temporarily necessary when trailers broke or if I will need to tether to make this work permanently.
>>will I ever have to tether to the computer to make this work?
It's not a MUST, rather a CAN.
Someone (can't remember who...) found the other option, installing the cert over ethernet - no need for USB any more.
