Next month it’ll have gone at least 10 years since this was first requested, even that thread mentions “still not possible” meaning it’s been longer than that.
Please allow Agents/API to set the Original Title field, since this can already be done for Movie objects. Having personally a massive library of Anime and not having the Agent being able to set the field it can be difficult to find some entries for some users.
Specifically for anime there’s two equally common ways of writing/using titles, Romaji and English. (e.g Attack on Titan or Shingeki no Kyojin)
Setting this field manually for every entry is a very tedious process and it would really increase user QoL having Agents be able to set this.
Totally agree with you. TV Shows should be able to set and scrape the Original Title, as sometimes viewers, they would like to search the English original name, even though you set the Title to localised name, in my case, Vietnamese.
I wonder if this is an issue with the legacy agents. I’ve just tested this on my server which is using the Plex TV Series agent. From what I’ve seen, I can find shows by their original titles just fine.
If you will ask me why not Plex Agent, my answer is to keep every metadata along with the media files, instead of saving those inside Plex. I had Plex crashed 2 times, got freshly re-installation and lost all metadata. So the next time if anything goes wrong with Plex, simply format the OS, re-install PMS, scan the media fiels, and bump!.. They’re all there.
New Plex agent is good but I still use Hama Agent and Absolute Series Scanner for my Anime library, in which it can’t set the Original title field and haven’t been able to for at least 10-11 years now, unfortunately.
