Please add this! At least the ability for the admin to assign which users can delete and which repos.
+1
This would be a very useful feature
I just wish plex would implement roles. So I could assign certain users privileges based off them, including deleting content, renaming so forth.
Would also be nice if user deleted items went to a ârecycle bin,â giving me the final word in deletion.
Is this feature request even being considered? I did not find any plex employee response in this thread or in a much older thread from 2014 requesting the same.
This would be a great addition.
Love this idea. Looks like it might take some effort to get this up and running. An easier option would be to delegate the file deletion permission on a per user basis. Can be easily added to the existing users settings page. This should be a quicker win.
Yes please. It would be great to add rbac to features like order of recording dvr, deleting only dvr shows, some nice rbac would be great.
Please add this feature.

Especially for stuff recorded on TV., and selected users only.
+1 - How many hundreds/thousands need to upvote this before it is implemented?
Minimal Implementation - Allow users to âtagâ items with a keyword such as âdeleteâ. Admin can then view all items with this tag and delete.
User Implementation - Add âAllow File Deletionâ as a Profile Restriction Option. (Along with Allow Downloads, Allow Camera Uploads, etc). This would be disabled by default, and must be manually set by the admin.
Library Implementation - Allow a library to be designated as âopenâ, with any user allowing to delete content within this library alone.
I think the ultimate âsolutionâ would be to use a user-based implementation. Allow the admin to designate authorized users who can delete what they want.
Would be great if also had an option to keep deleted files in some temporary location for 7/14 days or something; so admin can restore any accidentally deleted items if it happens.
Ditto for me as well. Itâs the lack if this basic ability to grant users access to delete content that is now the only real issue preventing me from shutting down my SageTV DVR solution. As administrators, we need to be able to grant managed users access to delete content and we need to be able set that access on a library by library basis.
That way my wife can delete the DVR recordings for Rachael Ray after sheâs watched, but she canât delete other libraries that are not DVR content.
Come on Plex, this is a waaaaayyyyyyyyy overdue feature.
@plex 2 years since I upvoted this one, came by to see if we had any official answerâŠ
Iâm so disappointed about your reaction for such basic featuresâŠ
I would also like this feature. My wife (Managed User) can not delete even what she set up to record on TV. This is usability 1.0 stuff here! Please add this feature.
Closing in on 2022 and still no word on getting this simple functionality added to Plex. WHY?
BUMP for the thread!
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. PLEASE add the feature that allows users to delete recordings.
Its 2022 now and Iâm still having to go delete peoples accidental and wrongly setup recordings from the DVR folders. OTA recordings are constantly filling up my synology 5 bay because of their file size.
I get a Plex update at least once a month and this feature never shows up. HEY NERDS! Listen to the USERS!
Still no update on this feature request. Please, can a plex dev or employee respond to this thread explaining why this couldnât be implemented.
I would love something like what @jaaaay said:
Example: Library advance setting
Movies = Managed / Allow Delete = Off
Music = Managed / Allow Delete = Off
TV Shows = Managed / Allow Delete = On
Or
Example: library Add folder settings
TV Shows
T:\Recording = Managed / Allow Delete = ON
X:\Saved TV Episodes = Managed / Allow Delete = Off
5 years on and Plex are actively adding useless features while ignoring BASIC functionality like this. smh.
Dear Plex Devs, how many votes does it take? This is 5 years old now, and has 140+ votes???
This functionality is needed.
Ayo, bringing this back up, I want Wifey to be able to delete the things she doesnât like from her library (only) so she doesnât need to keep a list and I donât have to do it.
Iâm not giving her admin, because thatâs inevitably going to lead to bad times.
Whose **** do I have to ****?
