Allow managed users to delete content (tv shows/videos/movies)

+1, also want this feature.

+1 Like others, cannot believe this is not already a basic feature built in.

I can understand why some people would choose to not allow users to delete files and that is fine, that is why you have the option to delegate delete rights (Plus other rights) to certain users but have it disabled by default.

What makes not having this option a bit silly and a security issue, is that I have several users who have access to different content but all I end up doing now is logging in as the same Admin user all the time to view content so that I also have the option to delete files.

At very least the person who sets a DVR recording should be able to delete the recording. This does not require settings, just remember the user that setup the recording and allow them delete shows recorded from that recording. Of course I still fully support allowing some users full delete. I trust my wife not to remove my stuff without asking, my grandson not so much

I do like that you can set in the DVR recording to remove after watching, or x number of episodes, or after a certain amount of time, etc. Unfortunately we are not that organized in watching episodes and other recordings.

Non DVR content (Movies, music, and videos added through OS/file system) should/could be a setting at the profile (user) level that they can delete. Right now I have to allow my wife to use the admin account so she can delete her episodes after watching them. Not optimal as she could accidentally adjust something with full admin rights.

This is the only missing feature that keeps me from dumping TiVo completely and promoting Plex to my default DVR. Plex devs… if you are listening… I hope you are able to add this missing feature.

Got my vote. Use-case is as well the DVR: my wife records some tv shows but I have to delete them.
Would be better if there would be the option: ā€œDelete after watching of person who recordedā€ instead of admin user.

Surprised to find this wasn’t achievable when I looked into it today when my Mom asked why she couldn’t delete her watched PVR content!

So yes, this also has my vote. I agree with one of the older comments that it’d be good to be able to assign the user deletion right on a per folder basis.

The only reason I bought a Plex Pass was so my wife could manage her own files on the server. Her not having the ability to delete her own files is so time consuming for both of us.

For the love of god if this is implemented please do not set it to allow by default, imagine the carnage of giving a 6 or 66 year old the power of the delete button. My kids and my parents will eradicate my collection.

I am new to plex and like others was trying to figure out where to give managed users the ability to delete.
I think this should be done at the library level. What I did was setup a library for all of my local movie collection. I would not want anyone to delete any movies from this database (even the admin).

Next I setup a DVR library for each managed user and only allow each managed user access to their DVR library and the movie library. That way each managed user can pick their own programs to record and save it to their own DVR library. Then everyone’s stuff is separate. This so far works great for my needs. If there was need for sharing then you could give users access to multiple managed user DVR libraries or even setup DVR libraries in other ways than by managed user.

The only missing part is that managed users can not delete their own recordings. If users had the ability to delete either by recording or by library that would be a complete solution. Either if the recording is out right deleted or marked for deletion (as someone else suggested).

This is basic file management and security principle that you find in any server environment. I could not imagine having to call the IT admin every time I needed to delete a file I was working on that was located on the server. But I would also not expect to have access to the files of the CEO or be able to delete system files.

chiming in with my +1.
would love to be able to configure specific users to be able to delete items from specific libraries.
echoing the comments from earlier…
i need my wife to be able to delete DVR recordings after watching them.
i do not want my wife to be able to delete things from other libraries.

the default for sharing libraries should be that the shared user is NOT allowed to delete - the admin must opt-in to allow the shared user to delete stuff.

Plex, please comment/update on this, don’t ignore.

Fix this! I’m surprised it wasn’t added when camera uploads for managed users was released…

I let my sisters automatically upload camera media, they usually take a bunch of photos of the same thing and then go back and delete all but the best photos…well now my plex server gets garbage photos that … I have to go through?!

My family doesn’t want to have *hit photos bloating there albums.

Also what if they accidentally take a ā€œadultā€ photo…heck I don’t want to see that, they should be able to go and delete it.

I feel like pushing this topic up!

Very good point raised now with the new camera upload features. Been a long time customer and I am now switching to handling photo database. A DELETE function is a must for been able to to a proper upkeep.

keep up the good work.

+1 from me.

Really don’t want to be manually deleting recorded content for other users. I wonder why this issue has been open for so long, Is it complex tooimplement?

+1 from me

It is truly laughable that such a basic and necessary feature has not been implemented.

Still this basic, fundamental feature of a DVR is not present.

And no word from anyone at Plex.

That’s because they don’t care what users want, or should I say EXPECT, from a media serving tool such as Plex.

Oh, and the inability to STILL not control whether I want those stupid spoiler thumbnails to be displayed!

Every time I am binge watching something I’ve saved up I’ve got to do some closed eyes or some other Voodoo dance to avoid getting spoilers!

LEARN WHAT YOUR CUSTOMERS WANT!

I mean, it’s not like there’s some large repository of feedback out the somewhere…

+1 from me. I can’t think about moving back from Emby until users can delete their own TV. I don’t want to be tidying up after everyone.

Per library, per user delete permissions, please.

There’s already a dedicated feature suggestion for that

Cheers.

Moved my vote there, not that it’s gonna be of any use.
