I have a number of family members that use my plex setup and share my library, unfortunately many of those users are located geographically at a distance of a thousand miles or more.
I am wondering if it would be possible to add function so that the library could be stored on multiple Mac Mini’s across the country and automatically stream from the closest or server with the least load.
This would also help with the issue of limited upload bandwidth from each location and that being a big bottleneck when more than 2 users are streaming.

Your choice of solution is way too complicated. To solve your problem all you need is to run Plex on a VPS & store your media library on Google Drive. There are excellent step by step instructions posted here https://www.techperplexed.ga/p/index.html

I’ll add my vote there and add a little detail to that.
Nigel. VPS doesn’t solve a lot of problems and the ongoing cost are expensive and prohibit a lot of other uses of a home setup
