Allow multiple remote users to watch synced video "together"

Allow two users, in different locations, both connected to the same Plex library, to watch a movie “together”. One person would have control of the playback, and it would stay in sync for both users throughout.

There is an existing Feature Request for this in that forum, located here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/74937/popular-tandem-playback-to-several-clients#latest

Add you “vote” to support the Feature Request by putting a “Like” in the first post of the thread. Other methods, such as +1’s are a waste of time, only “Likes” are counted.

This request is one of the most popular in Plex’s history, but it’s still not “exciting” enough to warrant development time. While I personally see this as a great idea, that’s just one user’s opinion, and I don’t speak for the rest of the community…

Thanks, Mike. I searched on it, but couldn’t find that one. I guess the keywordwas “tandem” instead of “sync”

Thank you!

This is a Great Idea.
Would be useful in many, many scenarios.

However, like all feature requests, in spite of the large number of votes… It probably will NEVER happen.
Too much in line with the function of a Media Server / Player.

This request is ALSO coming up on it’s 3rd anniversary… LOL

I am currently in a long-distance relationship, and we use www.rabb.it for the same purpose. For lack of a better word, watching videos tandem over it “sucks” I’m sure the Plex team would make a better implementation. Ahh well. Glad I’m not the only one with the idea.

Thanks Plex Team for your amazing software!

Something like this could help Service men and women maintain their home relationships. One of the hardest things to do is maintain a long distance relationship. Which is why the US Military has such a high divorce rate. As a Veteran I understand the problems being deployed can induce on a relationship. Having a “Movie Night” with loved ones on a semi-regular basis may help to reduce people growing apart during these deployments.

I brought this up in April when I talked face-to-face with @elan and other Plex Team members, but as we’ve seen it hasn’t happened yet. It seems Plex Cloud’s failure with Amazon had a much higher “value” to the community than trying to keep families connected a world apart.

How old a request is shouldn’t detract from it’s need in the community. It just highlights the Team’s unwillingness to implement the features many Plex Pass investors (or free users) have asked for.

Early 2021 clean-up: implemented (Watch Together); specific suggestion to include synced content for this feature
