Allowing a function to choose external IP (VPN issue)

When running a VPN (that does not allow port forwarding) on a Synology box, there is no way to port forward via the VPN to allow Plex to communicate with the outside world… in other words, no External Access. Rather than automatically resolve the external IP, it would be great if we could force Plex to use the actual external IP rather than the VPN’s IP. I know that this has been an issue previously, but have yet to see any kind of workable solution.

Unless someone else has found a way to resolve?

Engineer has only provided the means by which the HTTP server’s LAN adapter address is bound. They have not yet provided a means by which to bind() any other way.

You can tell Plex’s servers custom access URLs to use to communicate with your server using “Custom server access URLs” under Settings -> Network. More information can be found in the corresponding section of this support article:

Whether or not your VPN client will actually still listen for traffic on your local interface with the VPN tunnel active is another story.
