Like the title say. I would like to stop using Plex if possible.
Thank you.

The most often used haven of escape, at least temporarily, is Emby.
A few days of that and you’ll be back, so don’t pack more than a clean set of undies. You won’t be there that long.
Kodi is another alternative - I doubt you’ll get past the set up procedure - I didn’t.
Then I hear a lot about Jellyfin.
I can’t do that - got stung by a Jellyfin once and it hurt like hell.
What’s buggin’ ya about Plex?
Juice and I disagree about Emby. It takes a little time to get it set up and running correctly but it is well worth the effort. After using Plex for years I switched to Emby and I now use Emby for 95% of my viewing.
Emby does some things differently than Plex and in a very few areas Plex is even better. However I believe that overall Emby is the superior media streaming system. There are differences but after you get used to the way Emby does things it becomes much easier to use.
However Emby’s largest single advantage is in support. Normally if you ask a question or report what looks like a bug on their forums you get an answer from a developer within a few hours and sometimes even within minutes.
They respond so well that often users, like me, do not even have to guess and try to answer.
I still use Plex for a few things but, mostly, it is Emby I rely on.
I’m taking Juice’s side of things here, tried Emby and found it useful but lacked the polish of Plex. The Jolly Green machine was not for me, so I was back in Orange camp after a week or two. If you like you can run both at the same time on one Computer, check out the clients how they perform.
I believe the Plex forums are far more mature and there are many useful support articles and very talented forum members to assist with any annoyances. If I were a betting man, you won’t be gone long.
So keep fingers crossed that not more people switch to Emby. The reason this works like that is because the number of forum posts is much lower there due to the lower number of users. With as many posts as here I am pretty certain Luke cannot maintain his answer rate.
But one has to be fair: currently he probably answers most of the posts swiftly, that was also my impression when I was trying Emby.
Well, Plex is utter crap at this point. I have been using it for a little over two years and the changes have made it a really bad piece of software.
The funny thing is today Plex can not even find my local server anymore and I literally did not touch a thing. However I am able to access my server via the same computer that my Plex app is on.
Is there still a way to simply addthe internal ip adress so I do not have to use and account?
Your opinion, a lot of people probably disagree. If your client cannot find your server, then there is probably an issue with your configuration. Since you don’t share details, no one can help you. This is the same for other media servers.
Plex doesn’t work well without the internet and trying to make that happen is pretty much a PITA. What? Got no internet? Posting from Grandma’s House?
Perhaps VLC and a File Manager is what you really want, but try Emby.
I mean why not, right?
Maybe they’ll let you operate things without internet, but you will need internet to download the software.
Maybe someday… maybe someday…
Well, hey, thank you for stating the obvious. Of course this is my opinion and of course, a lot of people disagree and of course, a lot of people will agree with me.
Well, my configuration has not changed in at least a year, but Plex lost connection to my server today, which, like I said, is still accessible through the same computer that I have the app on.
What kind of information would you like me to give you?
Well, it used to be that you could simply add the local IP of your server and the app would use that to access it. Does the Plex app no longer allow that? Doy ou have to go through the account?
You didn’t update anything in the last year? Maybe that is your problem. If you did, you actually changed something. Just saying…
Server version, client version, type of client, are they in the same subnet? Do both server and client have Internet connection? Would be a start.
Yes on nearly every client you need to do that.
There’s still a box for doing this:
“List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”
Does that not work nowadays?
Let me clarify, I have made no major changes to my system in a year. Yes I ran windows updates as well as the Plex updates, both server and media. In fact updating both player and server was the first thing I did today.
I have just uninstalled and reinstalled the player, but I also noticed that the app on my TV is not gaining access either. However, like I said I can access and play all media and files on my WD PR2100 via my computer. Also Plex is up to date on the NAS.
While, I have been growing frustrated with all the changes for a while, Plex has at least worked.
One more thing, it broke piecmeal (after I created this post). First I could not access it through the web app, then, this morning through the media player and now the TV. However, the media player and TV had access after the web app did not.
Thank you for your replies so far.
I probably can’t help you on this specific problem, since I am not an expert for the PR2100. If you decided you want to get this issue resolved, you should open a new new thread in the correct sub forum with the right tag and a descriptive title. Supply as many details as you can and probably you will receive some help.
Thanks, I will do that. I might look into some of the alternatives as well.
can tag this post properly - and probably provide suggestions on how to proceed.
May not be any need to move house… we got the place under roof - might as well live in it.
Emby worked ok - and I support them now and then for a few months 'cause I like their customer relations policy - of engaging in customer relations - it’s just that everything looks like a Plex App on my FireTV.
Noooooooooo thankee…
As soon as they hire some 12 year olds to do the cosmetics - I’ll know and we’ll give 'em another go…
I am dependent on remote access - I haven’t checked lately to see if that’s still a PITA. I will tho. I like the guys at Emby.
I believe it’s still the same over there in the Green shed
I agree with this. Installed Plex a few days ago, hated it, had a look at Emby & Kodi, even worse. Going to have a look at Jellyfin next.
Which unless it changed very recently looks identical to Emby…but with even less client support.
