Am I "doing it wrong"? Lol

I built a fairly nice HTPC, but then I got kind of hooked on my new Apple TV, and having PLEX/HULU/NETFLIX/and other channels all in one place, all quick and easy to power up and power down with my little apple remote.

But am I “doing it wrong”? Am I getting a less than optimal audio or video experience? My high-end plasma is 1080p. The HTPC is a recent model Intel designed for such use. My AVR is an Onkyo TX-NR807 I think.

Does audio or video conversion take a hit streaming to the AppleTV? I do have issues with DTS encoded videos I download from the interwebs when I play them on PLEX. I get a center channel that is too loud to the point of distortion, sometimes. Not sure if it’s amateurish encoding or just something that should be avoided.

Thoughts?

Plex can only output what the client in question supports, so;

Dictates what can and cannot be done. Afaik, and by reading above, DTS does not seem to be supported. Thus, the audio will be transcoded.
