I’m considering installing PlexConnect, but I saw the FAQ noting that the ATV can’t support DTS audio. Does that mean all movies with DTS would only play in stereo? If so, is there any sort of workaround, maybe involving the PMS transcoding the DTS to Dolby 5.1?
So many files are DTS and a true surround sound, multi-channel, is a must for me.
I dont get stereo om my dts movies. My receiver tells me it’s dts.

unsupported multi-channel will be transcoded to multichannel AC3.
unsupported multi-channel will be transcoded to multichannel AC3.
Does that require the beta PMS or will the public version 0.9.8.4 transcode DTS? will

I ultimately went with the ipad app, until I get around to installing PlexConnect. It seems to handle audio the same way. According to my Pioneer AVR, my DTS movie files register as Dolby Digital ( I believe as you mentioned it would). Now I'm not an udiophile, but I appreciate multi-channel and high bitrate "depth" I'm not compirimising when I use Plex via ATV am I? As opposed to maintaining the DTS.

nothing in the Apple world supports DTS. In theory DTS can have higher bit-rates that AC3 but it is frequently not implemented that way due to the additional space that it takes on the DVD's. AC3 is considered to be a much more efficient codec at any given bit-rate.
The real question is, does it sound bad or worse to you?
That all makes sense, and I have to admit that that haven't tried yet to actually hear the difference. I will when I get some time to play around. Right now I'm trying to choose the lesser of 2 evils. I have Plex on my Samsung plasma, but there's a known issue of a minimal (but barely noticeable) poor black levels. On the Samsung Smart TV app I get DTS and can play video direct, with the Plex Ipad app and airplay (with that big transcoder feature) I wonder how my sound and video might be degraded. Now I'm also wondering how those two might compare to PlexConnect, which I also hope to try soon. I question which Pex will give me the best audio and video.
I have a fairly high end 60" plasma TV and a good surround system AVR, so I'd like those to shine and sizzle... so to speak

PlexConnect, and airplay will be 100% identical. It is just different interfaces to play on the same device, you may find yourself, like me, using both depending on what exactly it is you are doing.
Really? So there's the same transcoding when I airplay from the Ipad app and when I'd play a file in PlexConnect? I was assuming the PlexConnect would be more of a direct play experience, like I can do on the Samsung app (well, most of the time I can). Hmmm. Thanks for the info!

Direct Play is dictated by the client device, hitting an apple tv via airplay is not really different to hitting an apple tv via PlexConnect as far as what will/won't Direct Play.
If you want more support for Direct Play, then the only device out there better than your Samsung is a PC running either PMC, or even better Plex/HT when it is released.
Wow, you're really helping me understand how all the favors of Plex come together and how/why they compare. I've been living over at the Samsung Plex forum and really wasn't all that aware of the other flavors being developed. Is there a page where I can read an overview of Plex HT and what devices it could work with, what devices are needed, etc?
I was also taking direct play for granted with my Samsung TV and Plex app. But I'm beginning to understand why.

Given that the ATV can't process DTS, I wonder how this is so. Are you sure you're seeing DTS and not Dolby Digital?
