This. Exactly this. I think the echo is entirely underutilized and Plex integration would make it so nice. You could do so many things and link it as a remote for Plex.
I’m not sure if the Echo SDK is robust enough yet to allow any third party to develop their own channel. There are some Plex Ifttt recipes out there so you might be able to kludge something together, but I’m sure we’ll see official support when Amazon makes it possible to add a direct Plex channel. Until then I will dream of saying things like “Alexa, play Deadliest Catch on Kitchen Fire Stick”.
As of today, the publicly available “Alexa Skills Kit” only supports playing 30 second audio clips, so it’s not possible to use it to add a new streaming service. You could use it to control Plex (as has been demonstrated), but you couldn’t stream audio through the echo device itself.

That’s a bummer. Because it would be REALLY nice to be able to play my Plex music library through my Echo devices.
