I’ve been messing with settings and messing with settings in an attempt to resolve this issue. Everything on the fire stick works and streams great except the Plex app. I have even tried Plex for Kodi and kodiplexconnect which work flawlessly. But the native Plex app is struggling. During play back I receive the message “Your connection to the server is not fast enough.” I have turned on play back information and it shows direct play. I have also confirmed that the server is NOT transcoding but direct play via the dash board.
I have seen one post that says this has been an issue since 6.XX and other posts that point to exoplayer and the problem. I have even thought about buying the ethernet adapter for the firestick but with speed test showing over 100 and everything else working I don’t think this a network speed issue.
Is anyone else having this issue? Any ideas on how to fix it?
I’m using a Fire-TV 4K Ultra stick. It’s Ethernet connected to my Inhouse LAN. All streams are Direct Play. I can see this message occasionaly - even in my environment. I have to wait for approx. 5 seconds and this message goes away automatically. This happened today with the latest Beta: 7.21.0.12295-beta
All settings within the client are maxed/original/let the Server decide.
The server is running on a 40 thread Linux beast (2x Xeon 2680, 128GB) that’s sleeping with 2-3% CPU when running Plex.
Never figured out what’s causing this. But I have to confess that it got a little bit better with the latest releases.
After about 5 seconds the message does go away but it won’t start playing again. I have to force close the app and go back in to start play back again. Then i’m good for another 5 minutes to 25 minutes then it pops up again.
I’m going to get some logs tonight and post them but i’m not sure how much help that will be.
I can not help much. I always keep my five Fire-TV sticks, the Plex server software and the Plex client software up to date. And Plex is the only software I install Beta releases in clients (not server) for.
As I already wrote, it got better with every release - slowly.
What I forgot. Force closes and stick reboots are required here too when using the Plex app. Today I tried to look at a picture in my picture library - Plex and the stick stalled completely. Had to reboot the stick.
The overall experience with Plex is really good. But it has some nasty quirks.
Working on grabbing the log files from the fire stick I noticed something interesting. I was watching the server dashboard with the live stats and all of a sudden no stats from the firestick. About 30 seconds later it stopped playing with the connection speed error. At the same time I was running a continuous ping to the firestick. At the same time the live stats stopped so did the ping. I checked plex on the firestick and all library’s where showing unavailable. After a minute or so they all came back. It’s almost like plex is crashing the network connection on the firestick.
