Hello, I was wondering if someone could give me a bit of insight into my problem.
I set up plex on my mac mini, and I access it via 2 FireTV sticks 4k connected to my televisions. When I first set up plex, and log in everything works fine. After I come back to it a day later, amazon fire tv plex app says that it cannot connect to my plex. I know plex is working fine, because I am able to connect via my laptop. So I found out that I just need to reboot the Amazon FireStick, from its menus, and then plex works again. This happens almost daily, and I am unable to just go back to plex and open it. I always have to reboot the firestick for it to work again. It is not specific to just one firestick, it does it with both of my tvs. I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose the problem. What logs should I be looking at, and how do I turn them on. Any idea on how to fix it?
I have the latest version of both plex on the firestick and the latest server installed as well.
There are a number of serious issues on FireOS devices, one of which goes back over 2 years!
Another issue is that it disconnects / loses connection to the server. Suggestion is to go back to Plex version 6.12 or earlier, and those issues go away.
Download it from an APK mirror site, and side load it to the firestick. Easiest way is to use apps2fire on your phone/tablet. Uninstall the latest version from your firesticks first.
My brand new fire cube is unusable. Many items simply freeze when you initiate the playback. HEVC is particularly bad, in 1080 or 4k resolutions.
using the plex windows apps , IOS apps, or LG apps does not result in the same issues.
My fire stick just worked fine on the old firetrap app. I updated the app and it restarted and now it won’t connect to my server on local network. Looks like amazon app, OS X app, and Samsung tizen apps are all broken after this update.
All devices work fine with web app login so it’s 100% app failure.
I’m having the same problem, though I solved it by uninstalling/reinstalling Plex on the FireTV (mine is also a stick). I’ll try the reboot option, though neither is ideal of course…
I Have been unable use Plex since the latest server update on my fire tv 4K stick. Still work fine on the other older sticks and non 4k. DO have we a fix??
Honestly I like Plex, but being unable to use it properly on the Firestick, I had to switch to Emby. Have not had any problems at all with the Firestick App, works every time. May want to check it out
I stream from my PC (beefy) and stream to my Amazon Fire Stick 4K
Normally, it’s perfectly fine, but lately I’ll get a “retry” message saying it can’t connect. I hit retry 1-20 times and eventually it plays just fine.
Sometimes rebooting works, sometimes it doesn’t. What gives?
Same issue here, updated to the latest Plex app and I get server connection lost on my aftv 4k, all other internal and external clients work fine. I’ve had to use emby instead in that room
I don’t know if this can help, but in my cousin’s fire stick I went to Setting>advance > New Video player and turned it off. And it worked again, it appears that the new player is having issues in many devices.
I have only started experiencing and issue with my Fire Stick 4k where it successfully wakes up my Plex server for playback but once the connection is restored I get the error “there was an error navigating to the specified item”. With the options ‘cancel’ and ‘retry’. Hitting ‘retry’ does nothing no matter how many times I click it.
I know the Plex server is accessible as other devices have no issue. If the PC is awake when I launch Plex I do not have this issue. Eventually I can force Plex to quit and when it next logs in it is fine.
So I have side loaded the latest beta release and it is doing the exact same thing. I had hoped that the that fix line antry of “Make sure all servers and sources are available during first run”, but alas no. Its almost like the player is not giving the server enough time to respond before it deduces it isn’t there, and then gets stuck between treating it as remote or local.
The app does eventually crash in its state of limbo and upon relaunching it behaves as expected. Like I say non of my other devices have this issue with connecting to the server whilst it is asleep. They wait until the media is ready.
