Hi,
I currently have a Plex server running on Windows 11 with a RTX 3060.
This server is in my living room and is also used for gaming. I would like to change the video card because it is connected to a 4K TV and the 3060 is struggling.
I would like to move towards an AMD 7800 or 7900 graphics card because they have enough VRAM for the long term (the 4070 Ti only has 12GB), but I am not sure if GPU-based video transcoding works properly with AMD RX 7000 cards.
I should point out that my processor does not have an iGPU.
Does anyone have any information on this?
Are you sure the video card is struggling? that 3060 should be pretty beefy I think. Did you check to see if you might have a BW problem? Most TVs have 100 MB input, that usually is the first issue with 4K transcoding. Most rip 4k with a high BR and the BR for 4k raw can easily overwhelm a 100 MB input
There are Celerons that actually can transcode 4k pretty good and most sites say even a RTX2080 can do 4k.
I am, assuming you mean 4K because of the TV and there is no way that 3060 would even notice 1080P
The RTX 3060 is perfect for Plex transcoding (from 4k to 1080/720p) when i’m streaming outside my home.
But i would like to play my PC games on my 75’ TV with 4k resolution(My Plex PC is connected to the TV with HDMI) .
But 4070 ti have only 12 GB memory and 4080 are too expensive.
If RX 7900 XTX can transcode Plex videos, i would to by it instead of the RTX 3060.
