An error occured when trying to play movies with DTS that was OK previously

After trying with DTS uncheck ?

Yes, with dts off.

@anon18523487 hello ! Here we go, you’ll find logs attached.

As "DTS unchecked " is the default behavior on my side, here is what I’ve done :

  • set passthrough to “Optical”;
  • check “DTS” in “optical encoding”;
  • uncheck “DTS” in “optical encoding”;
  • switch back to “HDMI” in passthrough option;
  • play the movie with DTS audio (still “gladiator”) at 14:21.

Let me know if you need logs from other tests.
Thanks again for your help.

If it can help to fix/understand the situation, find below all the sound settings I can access on my hardware (translated from french, I hope it sill meaningful :

  • on LG TV 70UM7100 :
    – Sound > Simple Audio Output > HDMI ARC > “PCM” (default) or “Interconnexion” or “AUTO”;
    – Sound > Additional Parameters > Audio DTV Settings > “Auto” (default) or “MPEG” or “Dolby Digital” or “Dolby Digital Plus” or “HE-AAC”
    – Sound > Additional Parameters > Sync AV Settings > “off” (default) or “on” (which enable more options but nothing about input/ouput format);
    – Sound > Additional Parameters > HDMI input audio format > foreach HDMI port (1, 2 and 3) I can select “Bitstream” (default) or “PCM”; only HDMI 1, the Freebox Player Pop port, is selectable;
  • on Freebox Player Pop (Android TV) :
    – Settings > Sound > System Sound > “on” (default) or “off”;
    – Settings > Sound > Surround Sound > Format Selection > “Auto” (default - which check the following format : “Dolby Digital”, “Dolby Digital Plus”, “DTS”, “DTS-HD” and uncheck “Dolby Atmos in Dolby Digital Plus”, “AAC” and “Dolby True HD”) or “Manual” (then I can check/uncheck what I want from the previous listed format) or “disable” (all format are unchecked without being able to change it);
    – Settings > Advanced Settings > Audio Output > Dolby DRC > “RF” (default) or “LINE” or “OFF”;
    – Settings > Advanced Settings > Audio Output > Disable HDMI Sound > “OFF” (default) or “ON”;
    – Settings > Advanced Settings > Audio Output > Output Digital Format > “AUTO” (default) or “PCM” or “SPDIF” or “Manual”;
    – Settings > Advanced Settings > Audio Output > DTS Sound (DRCSCALE) > from “0” (default) to “100%”;
    – Settings > Advanced Settings > Audio Output > Associate Audio > “off” (default) or “on”;
  • on Samsung Q900T soundbar :
    – nothing (at least nothing about input/output format);

All is on default value, except “Sound > Simple Audio Output > HDMI ARC” that I switched to “Auto” instead of “PCM”, otherwise I no longer have a surround effect.

Connection plan :

  • Freebox Player Pop (Android TV) on HDMI 1 of LG TV;
  • Samsung Q900T soundbar on HDMI 2 (ARC) of LG TV;
    NB : I can’t connect all on the Samsung Q900T soundbar as recommanded because there is a problem with the 4K passthrough (I got only 1080p max as video output, not the 2160p I have with the actual connection)

FIXED !

How I did it :

  • on LG TV TV 70UM7100 :
    – “Sound > Simple Audio Output > HDMI ARC” to “interconnexion” (mean passthrough in LG language);
  • on Freebox Player Pop (Android TV) :
    – “Settings > Advanced Settings > Audio Output > Output Digital Format” to “Manual” (see in french : https://dev.freebox.fr/bugs/task/31383#comment151050 );
  • in Plex Player App :
    – set “Passthrough” to “optical”;
    – uncheck both “DTS” and “AC3” (thanks @anon18523487 for the idea);
    – switch back “Passthourgh” to “HDMI”;
    – ENJOY !

Now I just have to find how to make it work using my soundbar as the central hardware (connecting the Android TV to it, and not to the TV to be able to use Dolby Atmos and others 7.1(.x) format), but it’s not a Plex relative problem ^^.

Thanks all for your help.

Glad that worked for you. I’m surprise that setting was the fix. I would have it would be:

Your logs showed that your device was reporting it supported DTS, so PMS was still sending it the DTS audio. Since DTS is off in the passthrough setting, it is then up to your device to convert the DTS to whatever is supported. Your box is failing trying to use the DTS audio.

That setting must have finally told the box to stop saying it supports DTS.

In fact, this one changed automatically when settings all to passthrough, it goes to manual, and now only 5.1 formats are checked (so excluding “Atmos”, “DTS-HD” and “Dolby True HD”).
DTS works well now.
