An internet connection is required to scan library files. Please check this server's connection and try again

Thanks for the feedback

Is this true for the other users ? Or is it just that @PjMontgomery is now not getting overnight network failures

As you indicated this is not relevant to this forum thread. I cannot see any other posts by you for this. There are many factors - scanner (old or new), whether the option Prefer Local Metadata is selected. Suggest you raise a separate topic after reading the related support articles - all support articles are here https://support.plex.tv/articles

I’ve just started getting the same issue too. Music library only. TV/Movies libraries scan fine. Music library issue only started happening in past few days. Worked perfectly fine before that. Only thing I can think of that changed recently was I added some new FLAC music, and I’ve updated all OS updates (apt upgrade) on my raspberry pi running PMS (but was doing that weekly previously without issue). Restarting pms let’s me scan music library successfully again. Console didn’t show anything particularly useful about the error other than something like “Internet connection is needed”.

Though it’s scanning music again OK today, so maybe it’s intermittent. I’ll try to remember to post here again if there’s no remaining issue a week from now.

I’ve had no problems in the past 5 days now. Maybe it was a strange intermittent issue. I wonder if when scanning the music library, it starts off by calling some web service and it that web service had some issues last week? Whatever it was, all seems to be fine for me now, and I haven’t changed anything obvious since having the original issue.

I’ve been seeing this for the past six months or so: Plex can only scan music files for the first day or so after a restart, and after that time fails citing no internet connection (incorrectly). I’ve just updated from 1.21.3.4014-58bd20c02 to 1.21.3.4046-3c1c83ba4 (running on Openmediavault) and we’ll see if that helps, but it’s not as if 4014 was that old.

My suspicion is that we are failing to have the server marked as connected to the internet after some network failure resulting in disconnection of the Plex Media Server connection to one of our pubsub servers - these are backend systems that the server repeatedly/periodically communicates with and the successful communication results in the server being marked as connected to the internet.

A music library scan checks for this marker before starting a scan

So does the issue arise after a number of days - perhaps after overnight network outage maybe ?
Is the issue confined to NAS servers ?

Ideally would like to see server logs covering a number of days and leading up to the problem -

and to increase number of log files - see LogNumFiles here

I’ve the same problem, which I could only solve by turning off NAS and turning it on again.
Folders with movies work without problems, problem occurs only with music folders.

I also ran into this issue. Any chance that it’s related to authless LAN config (i.e. not going “online” because it’s not needed for auth)? I removed the LAN config, restarted the service, and was able to rescan my music library.

+1, I’m also meeting this issue
PMS on NAS Synology 1.21.1.3830
All others library than music are working well
Only Music give this trouble and I need to restart PMS to get the scan working again
this give some frustration again with my last PMS update.

the latest 1.22.3.4392 public
or the Beta 1.23.0.44 doesn’t seems to show any related fix for this issue…I’m now waiting Plex to resolve this., and in fact this not seems to be relevant to the pms version but with the pubsub heartbeat service server

I have this problem too. Music Library only. A restart fixes it but it’s getting annoying to do that every time

I have this issue as well. Only with my Music library. Has anyone find a fix for it?

I’m also seeing this issue. When I “scan library files” for my music library, the error pops up.

I’m running PMS 1.22.3.4523 on Ubuntu Server.

This error pops up for me in Plex Web 4.57.2.

If I initiate a scan in Plex Android, I get no error at all. (However the scan never actually begins.)

As others have said, restarting the Plex server fixes everything.

Was having this issue, solved it by unchecking the “Enable server support for IPv6” option under Network in Settings. Previously that option was not checked… so a recent update must have forced it to toggle…

Anyone have any other ideas/input on this. I have been doing some file cleanup, and scanning was working great all morning. I just spent 2 hours or so making some additional file name changes, and adjustments, and now I’m getting (An internet connection is required to scan library files. Please check this server’s connection and try again). I updated to the latest offering (1.23.2.4656-85f0adf5b-x86_64_DSM6)… no change???

I have now also made sure my Synology NAS is up to date (DSM 6.2.4-25556), and rebooted it completely… no change with regards to PMS and the music scan. I can scan all other folders just fine with no errors, and I can play music off of the server outside of the network (via the interwebs). I have had this server running for over 3 years now, and have never experience this before.

I can’t help you directly as I haven’t had this issue for ages now, I run Plex in a docker container on my Synology NAS. If you read the previous posts though you’ll see that the Plex team members who’ve commented on this thread have asked many times for logs so they can investigate properly but nobody has actually taken the time to gather the logs they need to actually figure this out and get it fixed. If you or anybody else in this thread is still being frustrated by this problem I really recommend taking the time and effort to help them debug this by getting them the appropriate logs.

Looks like a back-end system problem on the service Plex Media Server uses for esatblishing if there is an internet connection. The backend systems (referred to in Plex as pubsub servers) were returning an error 500 response on 10th June between 21:50:02 GMT and 22:45:54 GMT

Same issue here. Plex in docker, ubuntu system. Everything up to date. Weird!

Hello,

I’m here also to report the same thing. Happened today, in my case it was the first time.

Regards

I am having the same issue with “NO internet connection to scan my music library” I can scan my movies but not my music… Synology 922 running latest software
