"An internet connection is required to scan library files...." when it's already connected to the internet. Only happens for one library

I don’t think so, but I won’t swear to it.

I noticed this issue yesterday using PMS 1.20.0.3181 and having well below 8k folders (I have around 2k folders). PMS manual scan of all libraries does all movie and tv but skips music. Manual music scan has error of no internet even tho I do.
Tried reading thru this thread but didn’t notice a work around. Am I missing it? Thank you.

I restarted the instance of Plex Media Server and the problem went away on the next scan.

Update! Well for me, many of you probably already knew this. The problem on this thread is really about having an internet connection and Plex not recognizing it. What I didn’t know was that Plex will not work at all without an internet connection. Today, my cable company had a short 2-3 minute outage.

Only being a Plex user for about 6-7 months now, I was unaware of Plex requiring an internet connection to function. Which means I have to leave Plex and find a less restrictive package. I’m moving to Southeast Asia in the not too distant future and internet is notoriously off and on. It is the reason I bought a NAS. Why I can’t use “my” content on “my” LAN whether the internet is available or not escapes logic. Well, I guess that’s not entirely true. There are other media server software packages. Plex is good no doubt. But requiring internet is a deal breaker. Goodbye Plex! No point in paying Plex which apparently has some kind of self-serving mission (there’s no true technical reason for this). I’ll find someone else to take my money.

This is disconcerting. Is there no way to manually add files to the server? Paying customers should have the option to not require internet, even though it might be a lot of work to manage the library, the option should exist.

Also, the error message for requiring an internet connection has been happening quite a lot lately. Restarting plex server always fixes, but it’s a bit too recurring.

I started having this issue 2 days ago. Reboot computer did not fix it or full scan.
Please help.

You have a space in your “Allowed Networks”.

PMS doesn’t like empty specifications. Add the spec or delete the space – whichever is best.

FYI: You are posting a Windows problem in a Linux thread. Please be more careful next time.

What I did was shut down my NAS (the server) for a couple of minutes, then turn it back on. Once it rebooted, everything (Library Scan) was happy. On a Mac.

This happened to me a few weeks back. After turning off the Plex server on my NAS and restarting it a few seconds later, it worked. But for me, it has not been a permanent solution as the problem resurfaces after awhile.

May I ask what the DNS servers are set to on the server host?

I’ve noticed some ISP DNS servers have an issue. I don’t know why but when we set the DNS addresses to also use Google (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) it starts to work.

I wish I could explain why but cannot.

I am getting this on my Nvidia shield as well… I set my router to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 and it said the same thing. I have been just rebooting my Shield when it happens and it seems to fix the issue. This has happened twice in the past two days. This is new within the last couple of builds of plex.

Running build: 1.19.5.3112
