Analyze not being run or failing when adding media

@jamesbigler I have gone through a test on an NVIDIA SHIELD trying to replicate your setup - but I did not get the problem. This is what I setup:

  • Created a network share on a WD MyCloudPR4100 for DVR TV Recordings on the SHIELD
  • Created a TV Shows library on the Shield for DVR Recordings with a path to a TV Recordings folder under the MyCloudPR4100 network share
  • Added the same MyCloudPR4100 networked share as a path for a TV library on a Plex Media Server running Windows 10
  • Recorded DVR TV shows episodes on the Shield (I aborted each recording after 5 minutes - for the test)

I had logcat capture running through ADB on a PC - in case the issue arose

The problem did not arise

The windows 10 Plex Media Server did detect the change in the library at the time of the recording finishing and did start to scan it - that did not appear to cause an issue with opening the file on the Shield for analysis

The versions I have on the Shield

Plex Media Server 1.31.2.6739-a87e876bd
Plex for Android app 9.17.0.38861

Shield: info from Device settings / About
Model P2897
Version 11
Shield Android TV SW Version 9.1.1 (33.2.0.157)

Was there any difference after you disabled the other two instances of PMS accessing the share ?

If the problem remains and you are up to date with Android / NVIDIA updates, then the only option that remains is getting ADB setup and see if a logcat has some clues to add to the server logs

I just finished testing disabling the other PMS instances. It did not seem to have an effect, but I did discover something interesting with a hint from someone at my work.

I disabled “Opportunistic Locking” on my Synology NAS. Doing that seems to skirt the issue. I’m not sure what PMS is doing that tickles this issue.

Well Done - i just found reference to it on the NVIDIA SHIELD forum !

Is there something that Plex can do to avoid running into this problem for other users?

I will look into getting a support article added

The development teams were involved when it was noticed that playback could take 30 seconds to start when ‘opportunistic locking’ was in place. After lengthy investigations and going through the spec for locking, it was referred back to NVIDIA

When searching the NVIDIA forums I came across the above post which goes back to the time when the slow start of playback was looked into. I am not aware of any NVIDIA SHIELD firmware / software changes for SMB to resolve it

OK. Thanks!
