Container is unavailable for analysis having to re-analyse recorded tv

Server Version#: Version 1.21.2.3943
Player Version#:

I updated to Version 1.21.2.3943 and the shows recorded under this version had to be re-analysed to get direct play working on iOS and the nvidia shield tv. Once re-analysed, everything direct plays.

The error was ‘ container is unavailable for analysis‘

These shows had to be re-analysed

Here is a film I record via Plex.

It would not direct play:

And after I manually selected a re-analyse

All new recorded shows and films do this now.

Here are the logs https://drive.google.com/file/d/17zHfwcSDIOEVDAhXBKTiCX2vdrB-DkCh/view?usp=sharing and screenshots from a recording today.

Tried playing it and it would not direct play:

I had to manually re-analyse the episode for direct play to work:

This is still ongoing.

I uninstalled the server. Downloaded public and pass versions from plex.tv and these both have the same issue.

On version 1.21.3.4014 now and still an issue @anon18523487

I am having the exact same issue. I am on server Version 1.21.2.3997. I am using AppleTv for playback and running the latest version of iOS.

Yep. On everything recorded.

I updated the PMS Version 1.21.3.4014 and I still have the same issue as well.

I’m also having this issue. Currently on 1.21.3.4015. I’m not sure what server build I was running when this started happening but it may have been sometime during the 1.21.1.38xx series. I run the server on Linux. Problem impacts at least iOS and tvOS clients. Tried falling back as far as a ~3mo old TestFlight client build offered no improvement, so definitely server side issue.

Yep. It’s the server end. Same issue on my shield tv and all iOS devices.

I have just updated to PMS Version 1.21.3.4015. Still the same issue.

Let me get this clear. So DVR’d content is not playable at all or not direct playable (forcing a transcode works)?

Running Analyze get’s the file working?

@Afullmark Can you provide me the XML for the video having this issue before and after you do the analyze?

The issue is will all recorded content by plex DVR. Basically there seems to be an issue with the server analysing the container immediately after recording.

If you play something that has just recorded you get a transcode because ‘App cannot direct play this item. Container is unavailable for analysis’. In my case you can see from the screenshots that the video and audio are copied and the ‘source’ message is ‘Transcode’. The files play.

However, if you then manually re-anlayse the file, you are then able to Direct play: ‘Source: Direct Play’.

For example, here are two recordings from yesterday:
Finding Alice XML: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SvoMK_2R_z-bfunDvWmHdy7f2kKqxixN/view?usp=sharing

And this is after I manually re-analyse the file:

Deliver us XML: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1knWVxyi3-EFQ8jke1K2Zshj0ygoO8UAs/view?usp=sharing

And this is after I manually re-analyse the file:

If I manually re-analyse those two files then they would direct play.
These two posts take you through the process:

Both of the XMLs you provided are from after you ran the analysis. Can you provide me the XML before you run the analysis?

Nope. They were from before. I ran a manual reanalyse after I uploaded those. I did that the same time I did the edit to add the images showing the direct play.

ok, then can I have the xml from after

Here are 2 xml files from a video I recorded today. The file names should be self-explanatory .

After Manual Analysis 10455.txt (3.5 KB) Before Manual Analysis10455.txt (3.4 KB)

Thanks. I can see that the before doesn’t include the container info. That explains the “container” error mentioned.

I’ll report this to the team and see what they think.

@johnnynav Are you also running on MacOS?
