Android App No Longer Displays Video Resolution In Movies Section

Server Version#: 1.32.0.6973
Player Version#: 9.23.0.1746
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

The movie details no longer show video resolution (1080p, 4K, etc). This started occurring with the latest update.

The video resolution does display properly on all other players connected to the server. Confirmed also displaying properly on Android app version 9.21.2.1271 and stopped working after upgrade to 9.23.0.1746. TV Shows and Other Videos do still show the video resolution properly. Issue seems isolated to Movies.

+1. I also prefer the codec and resolution to be displayed. The video resolution and codec info are also present in version 9.21.3, and not anything more recent. It seems the more recent versions replace the info with “writer”.

I’m not seeing video specs at all (codec, resolution) on Android (latest, 9.26, Android 13). Movies and videos sections. Only audio and subtitle info is shown. It seems there is not even any way to preview these details (even in hidden menu).

I’m assuming this is a temporary problem or bug (despite existing for at least a month), because otherwise it would mean Plex is losing their sanity, which would not be ideal.

Update: Applies to movies and videos sections, but strangely enough not shows. Android mobile app (phone, Pixel 6a). Android TV (Chromecast) is fine maybe, but only shows resolution not codec. Have tried beta via Play Store with same results (left review with details).

For me it’s only the Android Mobile app (phone and tablet) that is not working properly. The Android TV app is displaying all the information.

I use the android mobile app to keep track of my collection and use it when I am out to try and avoid duplicating titles. In this exercise the app has been most useful in the past, but has lost much due to the codec and resolution being removed from the display. I hope they re-instate it soon.

I’ve played around a bit more, and just to confirm: All of my Android devices (mobile, TV, Chromecast) are having some kind of trouble showing video info. Mobile shows nothing, just entirely missing! TV and CC shows resolution only (should show codec like AVC, HEVC in parentheses). Other OS that I use are OK (web app, Windows).

So I’m still guessing it all points to an Android bug, fair enough. But it’s a surprisingly visible and enduring one (effecting the viewing of video info on all movies/videos across a major OS and all of its devices). Meanwhile we’re just left guessing what’s going on and why, which starts to get worrying as the problem drags on for weeks or months. It’s always the communication that bothers me most.

Devices: Hisense 50U6G TV (Android TV), Chromecast for Google TV (4K 2022), Pixel 6a (Android 13)

+1 What’s the matter with the Android app? It is even failing to play any video…

Same here. Would it be possible to get that feature back?

It’s been FIXED in v10 of the Android Player.

THANKS PLEX DEVELOPMENT TEAM !!!
