Yes. Another complaint about the “new experience”. I haven’t read all the complaints, but some of the items below I haven’t seen mentioned.
major regression for tv downloads
– can only download singles or whole seasons, vs previous behavior allowing download of specific number of episodes at a time
– episodes are not grouped by show
– new episodes never automatically download
– watched episodes must be deleted individually and manually
failed downloads must be restarted manually and individually
watched status of downloads does not update to server
downloads in Original quality still require the time cost of transcoding, which also seems to impact simultaneous playing (i.e. don’t try to watch something while you’re downloading)
Downloads appear to fail if you leave the app
Would be great if Plex could respond to these issues/complaints. All the posts I’ve seen about downloads are just us poor sap users commiserating about how it sucks.
This is what a plex employee posted on reddit. “Main focus right now is work on TV apps, but queued up next projects include the next phase of download work. That will focus on “downloading groups” like the download x number of episodes. A future phase will probably target smart downloads - which would be something like “in the background auto download the next three episodes in the show/season/group and auto delete after watching”.”
Lovely, aint it? Take away features because you need to force a new app into release, and keep paying customers happy “we will work on it and it will be better”. And in the meantime, i’m manually copying series episodes to my tablet, watching without subs, manually marking them watched in plex… For connected viewing, it still works. For movies, the new limited download features are acceptable although unable to sort. For offline watching of series, it is just about competely useless.
yeah current version of downloads is okay for movies but almost useless for tv shows due to the missing features like download x unwatched and things like that. You can get away with not having those for movies but almost required for tv shows (at least how I use it).
I can’t get downloads on android to work at all since the forced mobile app upgrade. Worked normally with the previous app. Now all downloads fail with a generic “NoConnection” error in the logs, yet I can view the libraries and stream to the same app without issue.
