Android/Google/Youtube seem to know what I'm watching through Plex

I have never googled the series “Yellowstone.” The last time I have discussed the word “Yellowstone” was when I rode a motorcycle through the National Park in 2014 or so.

I do happen to have episodes of the Paramount series “Yellowstone” on my Plex Media Server. I’ve been watching that series recently. And now, all of a sudden, I’m getting Yellowstone (show) themed videos showing up in my Youtube suggested videos feed.

My Plex Server is on Synology DSM. I consume the PMS-served videos on an Nvidia Shield device through the Plex app.

How and why is Google/Alphabet/Youtube able to know anything about my Plex media consumption habits? And what can I do to block it?

I’d really like the Dev team at Plex to disable Google’s forks into media consumption stats in Plex client on Android TV.

I have never seen anything I’ve watched from my server appear as a YouTube suggestion. I also use a Shield.

When streaming from your server, the name of the file that is sent isn’t even the original name, so I have no idea how what you watched could have gotten anywhere. To be clear, Plex does not share your viewing history with anyone.

It would be interesting to test. Watch something else and see if that also shows up as a suggestion. I just tried and I can’t reproduce so there is something else involved if this happens to you.
