Android Plex external player for video or audio

The Android Plex app has settings for an external player that works for video but not audio files.

I would like to use VLC as the external player for my large WMA music collection stored in a Synology DS416 NAS.

When I set VLC as the external player on my Android Plex app, it invokes VLC for video files but not for WMA music files.

Why not allow allow either an external player like VLC for ALL files or provide an option to use an external player for video files and a separate audio file player for music files?
