Any chance Plex may get an app for the upcoming Nintendo Switch?

Transcoding is part of it. But I’d have to figure most people who would purchase such a device probably already have a decent to high quality mobile phone that can already use Plex with much higher resolutions and functionality already.

So I was just wondering what the big deal is for those that want it? I do get the fact you want Plex on everything but on a 720p screen?

I’ve been a hard-core-PC-gamer longer than many of you have been breathing MY air (lol). As a result I feel as do many of my brethren, that consoles in general have ruined the industry and are something to be avoided at all costs. I’ve got a gaming rig. I don’t need a glorified game-boy so Nintendo Switch better have something I would consider extremely valuable (free air fare for life on United ‘Fight Club’ Airlines might do it), but 720p certainly isn’t it.

I had a 720p TV Explode recently. I was kinda sad, 'cause it was paid for, but I didn’t rush right out to buy another one.

Reason 1: Sometimes I might be with nothing but my Switch, and I’d love the option to impulsively watch something off the Plex
Reason 2: The Switch’s screen is bigger than my phone. At that size, 720p is fine.
Reason 3: I think the Switch is an amazing device and deserves all the support it can get. Having something like a Plex client will only increase its value and penetration over time. The bigger the installed base, the more support it’ll get in turn, and so on.
Reason 4: The hardware is plenty capable. It has a quad-core 2GHz ARM Cortex A57 CPU along with a 1GHz nVidia Maxwell GPU with 256 CUDA cores, and 4GB of RAM total.
Reason 5: the screen is VERY nice and somehow the speakers are amazing too, exponentially better than my phone or tablet speakers.

Why is 1080p important on a tablet-sized screen? Scientifically, how could you tell any appreciable difference without your eyeballs almost touching the glass?

I appreciate the feedback to my question. I really haven’t read much about it nor played with one. But to me since it doesn’t support Amazon Video, Netflix nor have a functional web browser it doesn’t seem like a very ideal way to access streaming content.

Have any of you guys tried the work arounds to use the built in limited web browser to try and access plex just to see how well it might function?

…yet. It’s pretty much a guarantee that these things are coming. They just weren’t critical base functionality to get the device launched (remember, Nintendo sped-up release of the “NX” in order to address the bomb that was the Wii U).

The question is: will Plex be there too? Considering the weird obscure old crap that has Plex clients at this point, I’d hope that Plex would put out an app for the hottest current gaming device, one that is outselling where the PS4 was at this same point in its introduction. They are projecting 7.2 million Switches sold by the end of 2017. It warrants attention.

I would love to be able to take just one device out on a plane or a car trip. The Switch with the plex app syncing movies to the SD card would be awesome!

Now that Hulu is on the Nintendo Switch and Netflix is working on an app, is Plex coming?

Would love to have plex on my Nintendo Switch, since there is a Hulu app, maybe it’s possible for you too

ill throw my name in this hat, it would be awesome!

A Switch app would indeed be awesome. It just makes sense.

+1 for me!

+1 for me to!

This would be amazing. Please take my money.

+1

The ability to use plex on the switch would be amazing esp. when i go on vacation its smaller than my laptop and would allow my laptop to still be used by others and myself, when away from home and want to watch our content on the tv.

Life time user here.

Docked it supports 1080p.

I have found myself more than once wanting this and trying to get it to work on the switches browser while on vacation wishing i could watch content on my switch, hulu is ok but i have 0 interest in signing up for a subscription when all of my content is readily available for me on my plex server that i already have paid for.

Every device in my house BUT my switch has plex, it feels very wrong.

Definitely a +1 for me. I would use Plex on the Switch every week. I take my Switch to work to play on my downtime.

+1 for me to !

+1 from me. I’ve only gotten around to using Plex recently but it’s AMAZING! Plus the ability to take it anywhere is an added benefit.
Also Hulu is now on the Switch so it does raise some hope right?

Just putting my 2c in, mobile sync on the Switch would be magic.

+1 for Plex on the Switch

+1 Absolutely on board with this.
