I am finding that PLEX is becoming my convergence app for TV entertainment. With the live TV and DVR functionality, along side my home videos and movie library, the only thing I am missing for a complete single, seamless, point of access to all my entertainment content is the ability to access 3rd party streaming content from PLEX. I’m not talking about a youtube, netflix, or Amazon channels. That’s no different than a Roku. I’m talking about the ability to ‘deep link’ into these services. For example, it would be perfect if I could add Burn Notice, streamed from netflix, as a ‘content icon’ in my PLEX library. So when I am looking for movies or TV shows, I would see my local content, my DVR’d content and those Netflix episodes that i’ve chosen to link to my PLEX library. Of course I would expect the netflix content to be streamed directly from netflix, all PLEX would do would be to create a link to specific content, and authenticate my netflix usage allowing me to start a netflix show directly from PLEX. I suspect this is possible, but would require cooperation from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc.
Any chance you guys are thinking about this?
The biggest issue with cord cutting is that there is no convergent source for entertainment. Boxes like Roku,AppleTV, Google, etc bring together the ‘channels’, but I have to know where the content is located to be able to watch it. It really is kludgy at best. If PLEX cloud allow me to add ‘links’ to specific streamed content from Netflix, etc. that would give users a true single environment to manage their content.
Would love to see something like this…
