Any plans to update Plexamp headless for RPi?

Self explanatory, but the actual build uses a very antique version of Node and generates conflicts with other apps!

I’d love to get it running on HiFiBerryOS

Cheers

HifiBerryOS is a “customization” not an OS, and should be seen as an “appliance”. There are no repos available, and if you want to install anything, you will have to scp/wget/etc everything over, and hand-install it manually, same goes for all updates! If anything breaks, you are on your own.

Yes, I’m aware that it is a build on top of Raspberry Pi OS Lite (Raspbian). The current headless build is running a very old version of Node.

At some point we’d love to get it updated to the v3.x Plexamp code, but that won’t happen until we get remote controllability back, for obvious reasons

Actually you are wrong! It is not built on top of RaspbianOS, but an embedded version of it built using buildroot!

Thank you for the response @Elan, this sounds great. I think you’d then see a lot of people migrating from Roon to Plex (myself included).

Don’t forget arm64! my pi400 is able to run a full linux desktop but the only thing missing is plexamp. only way to play plex music on it currently is web client, not ideal.

thx

Hi @Elan - I, like many many Plex users, am very much looking forward to having the ability to run a headless Plexamp 3.x on RPi/regular Linux dists etc. Do you have a rough timeline you can share with us for when controllability might be added back in?
Also worth saying that before I discovered Plexamp (somehow only last month, despite being a long-time user and subscriber) I was seriously considering moving away from Plex altogether, so awesome work on creating an honestly brilliant app with top notch UI/UX design and a decent level of fine-grained customization of the app itself.
When you add the missing features and allow this app to run headless on SBC etc, I think the loop will be closed, and I for one, can stop the search for a one-app-fits-all solution to my hires audio needs. That said, a wish for synchronized playback on multiple endpoints would be another level of amazing. Anyway, keep up the great work.

i’m really sorry, i don’t have a specific timeframe; it’ll probably be part of a general dependencies upgrade which we’ve been putting off for a while  but it definitely “closes the circle” on making v3 controllable again.

you’re very kind, we all appreciate that!
