any way to disable cache?

is there any way disable caching for a specific VideoItem in a plex media server plugin?

im just starting to try to put together a plugin (first time developing for plex media server or using python at all) and i have the link passing through to plex properly, however it is a live video stream, so when i go to play it in plex it sits there buffering endlessly.

anyone have any ideas how i can disable caching of the VideoItem?

fyi its a mms://blah/blah/blah.asf windows media stream that ffmpeg plays fine. its just a 24/7 live feed, so caching needs to get disabled or it sits there buffering indefinitely.

btw the PMS framework is insanely easy to work with even for someone with no python experience.

Hey Billy Joe, sorry it took me so long to reply. Glad to hear you’re finding the framework easy to use

Can you paste a specific example of an MMS stream you’re passing back to Plex (the URL)? I’ll have a look, I’m not sure what the problem is but I don’t think it’s a caching issue (but I’ve been known to be wrong).

mms://rx-sv-ca13.rbn.com/farm/pull/tx-rbn-sea001:1459/wmtencoder/cspan/cspan/wmlive/cspan1v.asf

thats the live feed for the first of the 3 c-span channels, works fine in mplayer

OK, you were totally right, it's the large cache that's taking quite a long time to fill up. I'll have a fix for you in the next release of Plex which allows the plug-ins to send back a hint about how much data to cache (or the bandwidth of the stream).

Thanks for the report!

Awesome :) I'm also waiting on that to release my next plugin.

Just got this working, it will be in the next version of Plex to be released within a week or two.
