We did this a couple of years ago. I think it would be nice to have some round tables again with the development team and some of the long time Plex pass members. I’ve been using Plex for nearly 5 years now and while I love it, it’s still far from perfect. I’m just putting this out there in hopes that someone will see it and the ball will start rolling in this direction.
Why??? The roundtable talks we had resulted in nothing or less than nothing as Plex gave out a lot of platitudes with no follow through at all.
I think those roundtables were a low point for Plex and were only held to try to shut up a number of long time users. They did not have the desired effect.
Oh - I disagree. The round table that I participated in was quite productive and some of the issues that I had at the time were addressed and fixed.
Honestly, I think they should do them annually. Plex users are all very unique - we have unique media libraries and as a result we each have unique needs and experiences with Plex.
Sometimes I feel like the developers get distracted by new and shiny features and will rush to implement them while leaving older, necessary features broken or only partially working. I think by keeping them in touch with the actual user base, we could remedy that.
If nothing else, participating in the round table talks made me feel like they were actually listening to me as an end user and at least acknowledging the issues that I brought up.
That was just a coincidence.
You can’t streamline and have it unique. Who will plex listen to, the DEV team, us the users, or HBO?
But Plex does not think the users here represent their users in general. They think “power” users do not at all want or need what regular users want or need so they feel free to mostly ignore power users.
But it really does not matter much as Plex has stated that they will not be having any more roundtables as they feel that the roundtables did not produce any useful results.
Nailed it… and it shows.
Yep, Plex users are unique, just like everybody else.
Makes us wonder why we even bother with these forums. Basically just a pacifier for power users to give them a place to vent.
Ultimately, it’s the so called power users that discover the flaws. The round tables with @elan were pretty informative, but what has happened are the core functions either get neglected or broken when they roll out their latest ‘integration’. Things that were brought up in our round table did get fixed, it just took a long time.
The movie libraries for the most part work as expected, it’s the ID3 tag reading that seems to always cause problems. We sent file after file to the Dev team explaining what was happening and it has gotten better, but it’s STILL a work in progress.
